I just got off the phone with Jaime...I can't believe Andy's luck...

As yall know, he just got his Esprit out of the shop from his nearly year-long engine rebuild, one week ago.

He was in the parking lot of the local WalMart yesterday (evidently right after I talked to him) and some fcukwit numpty in an old Buick blew right through a stop sign and nailed Andy's Esprit.

Evidently, the whole front end is toast.

The silver lining of course, is Andy won't have to go out of pocket...the other guy's insurance will have to post.

But man, he was just getting back into the swing and this happens. Unbelievable.

Commiserations to Andy. However, you are assuming that the other guy actually has insurance. This is an old Buick and Wal-Mart

That's enough to scare me!

Just got off the phone with him.

Yes, the guy had insurance, there was a cop there too who ticketed the Buick driver for failure to yield.

Here is the kicker. The damage is just body panel damge to the Esprit. Andy said he even drove it home with no problems, and is going to drive it up to Jaime's shop tonight.

But he said the Esprit held together amazingly in the crash, because the Buick got fcuked. Guy couldn't open his door. So Andy was very impressed with the car's integrity.

He's got a good sense of humor about it...will probably be down another 2 or 3 months, but at this point he's used to it.

He'll also get a few things basically fixed for free (on the other guy's insurance ticket) such as the previously posted headlamp motor issue, an AC issue and he had a bad seam from what appeared to be a previous body repair which will now be sorted with a new panel.

If you think about it, after the engine rebuild with the S4s head, and now new body panels, etc on the front end, he's close to driving a new Esprit at this stage

Oh, and in other news, I've cancelled my Saturday morning appointments and am going to drive up to the Brits by the Bay car show in Pasedena MD to take Andy's place in Jaime's show tent.

Not exactly the way I wanted to go to the show, but at least Jaime still gets to show one of his Esprits. And I get to park it next to Eleanor (this X180R).

Will take plenty of pictures and post them on my site.

Thanks for the replies guys.

And Mike thank you so much for stepping in for me at the Brits by the bay show, I know you had other plans that morning but it meant alot to me.

I will try to shed some light on the events that occured last friday morning

I was getting up early that morning to play golf before detailing the car for the brits show. I decided not to go play golf but just spend the whole day getting the car as nice as I could for the event since it would be the first time anyone had seen the car in over a year.

I decided to head up to walmart that morning since its only a mile from my house to get some compressed air for cleaning computer keyboards to blast the little but it of dust that had started to collect on the motor.

Remember this was at 7:30am and I beleive there were maybe 5 cars in the whole parking lot. I figured perfect cool morning, and no one would be out so I drove the esprit.

I was exiting the shopping center on a two lane street headed out to the main avenue. I was driving about 15mph in 1st gear when some guy pulls right out in front of me. He blew right through his stop sign and was in the wrong lane of traffic. He never even looked up until I hit him. I beleive even if I had the car stopped he would have kept going until he had hit it. He was totally clueless. He complained to the cop that my car was to low and he didnt see it LOL.

Anyways the insurance adjuster is looking at it today. When we put the car up on the lift friday night we realized that it had cracked both inner wheel wells. and clean across the front section. Absolutely no frame damage as it was just a fender bender. Te car drove great all the way to jamies shop, and I almost felt bad leaving it since it was driving so good.

So it looks like basically it will need a new front clip and other misc. things and we'll be back on the road.

And as Mike mentioned it is going to fix some other things in the process so all in all I am going to come out on top.

I hate to see it go back so soon, but frankly I couldnt afford to fix some of those other things right now and now it will be done.

Thanks for your support guys

Andy

I tell you one thing, I wouldnt want to be the guy on the other end of hitting an Esprit. In my head i'd be frantically, "Oh crap, I HIT AN ESPRIT!" LOL What are the chances of THAT happening.

Good to hear damage is minimal on a serious scale and that you are ok.
