Dash veneer warning lights removal ??? (Mk2 dash)
Discussion
I am in the process of renewing my dash veneer. The clocks came out easy enough. I am having a great deal of difficulty in removing the warning lights that appear randomly across the dash (Mk2 dash)?
The lights (LEDs I think) are the ones for the indicator turn signals, various warning lamps etc. They look pretty flimsy from the back and I can't see a way of removing them from the dash veneer and hence cannot get the veneer out of the car. Am I missing something or is it a case of chopping wires and re-soldering them together when I've finished? Anyone have any pics on how to remove? Do the bulb holders come forwards or backwards through the dash? How do you loosen the push-fit clips they are held on with?
Also, I have not tried yet but how easy do the heater LEDs come out of their holes? I have seen this on fleabay and was wondering if it was worth buying:

I have not checked, but something in my mind says they were glued into place i think mate?
possibly a case of heating glue or simply a little force?
out of interest, how hard is it to re do the dash as mine is splitting a bit now, but a grudge the rip off price for a new dash, but want to keep the wood

The circular spring clips are a bit tight but can be removed with a sharp screwdriver. Use a suitable sized socket and vice to squeeze them back on, taking case not to scratch the new veneer.
The LEDs around the heater dials are easily broken. Red and green available from maplins. Kit from ebay useful as it has the resistor wires etc already soldered in.

I've just replaced the dash on mine (mark 2) it's a bit of a job but not too bad. The spring clips that hold the warning lights in are easily prised off with a flat screwdriver and then the aluminium led housings should just slot out. Take care when you put them back in to get them the right way up and level. The two individual warning lights either side of the rev counter and speedo are a bit tricky. On mine the LEDs were well and truly glued/melted in and I ended up breaking the wires attached to the LEDs, so I now have to drill them out and find fresh ones! HTH.

I didn't re-do it but bought another pair of veneers.Give James a call at TVR Mads and in exchange for £200, he'll send you out a matching pair of veneers.

If you fancy doing it yourself, its not too bad a job if you have some spare time on your hands. Good write up on the wedge pages here:

I bought a spare Mk2 dash , sent that off to LCC to be re-veneered then when it came back I could swap it over in one go - took the afternoon to do. If anyone else wants to do this I have the original crappy dash and radio plate for you to send away - cost me £50 for both would sell for the same + postage...
