I'm 25 and looking for my first bike. My problem is I like fast things and always get bored quickly. I don't really have much biking experience (I have done a little motocross) but I have experience of racing cars as well as karting experience and think I have quite good natural coordination / feel for grip levels etc. The bike will be mainly for road use but I will probably do a few track days where I know I wont be able to resist pushing as hard as possible. I will only ride in good weather and am a sensible driver (and hopefully rider) when on the road.
I was thinking of going for a 2006 model CBR 600RR. Is the unrealistically powerful? Would I be able to build up my skills on this before moving to a litre bike?
Many thanks.

600s are a great compromise imo, fast enough to raise a smile yet revvy enough that you can thrash em to get going, which is fun afterall. If you've motoX experience then you'll be fine on a 600 imo. It'll still get you into bother if you let it though.
CBRs have always been solid bikes, not a lot of bad points. Personally I prefer the rawness of the ZX6 Kwaks, I'm a sucker for the intake howl

I was in a similar situation (wanted a weekend toy for road + track use) and went from an Aprilia RS125 to DAS to a CBR600RR with no problems
You don't say if you've done your DAS, but if so did how did you find the learner 500? If that was intimidating and felt like the fastest thing in the world then maybe go for something a little more beginner friendly for a first bike. If however by the third day you were changing gear at the redline and hoping you could lose the instructor at the lights so you could open her up before you got the "pull in safely on the left" I'm sure you'll be fine.
Get a few insurance quotes too - I'm a few years older with 6 years car no claims, garaged bike and its nearly £900 FC

ocks off it all day, where as with a liter bike you run out of track too quick.
