With the little midget seemed hell bent on chasing money around the world rather than giving the fans what they want, and turning his grey haired mop away from some of the finest tracks in the world, in favour of Disney style PC tracks, could there be a slim chance of a new series...?
Surely some of the best tracks will soon be kicked out of F1 as we currently know it, you know the shite racing courtesy of Mad Max and his midget gimp!!
There is an opportunity on the horizon for someone like Eddie Jordan to revitalise a premier open wheel racing series on the real tracks of the world, for drivers with big balls to race real cars, devoid of all the aero tweaking shite that they currently have and also devoid of all the controls of current FIA regs...

only if the cars are formula fords with 300 bhp. the A1 cars look rubbish, aerodynamics on cars these days just ruins their looks. the straight lines of modern Formula Fords are really nice and 300 bhp is probably obtainable from a 2 litre zetec (just!). think of it as a modern lotus 25!
300 bhp might not seem a lot but all you need is just the right amount of power for the grip that is on offer, that way the cars are a real handful to drive and offer drivers and spectators some fun.
a1 cars look awful, too much aero, htey look like second rate F1 cars (which i guess they are!) something that looks markedly different is required...

who cares about the "big" drivers, we have seen in the last twelve months that they are a bunch of whining tarts more interested in tearing apart team relationships
i dont care if it attracts big names or not, i just want to see people race in cars which require a real demonstrtion of ability. i think it would work, it would be ideal for those without the budget for anything like f1 but with the skill to compete. step forward Justin Wilson, Ryan Dalziel and my wildcard Peter Dempsey!!
the only drivers who would not want to compete are those who fear it might actually highlight their inabilities...
So are we trying to think up of a budget racing category that can compete with F1, Champ Car, etc.?
Why not just go with 250cc ICC Superkarts?
Or if we want no aero, we could do with Formula Ford chassis mated with 990cc MotoGP engines that produce 240BHP. That combination should be able to propel itself to nearly 200mph. Not very safe given the nature of the Formula Ford body, but pretty wild.
Or if we want a little bit of aero and safer cars, we could go with Formula Renault chassis with FIA Super 2000 spec engines which produce around 280BHP. That combination could also do 200mph without too much aero interference.

not so much a budget level sport but one which could produce 30+ grids, great racing, a real challenge to the drivers so no electronics or driver aids, no fly by wire throttles etc, just good looking simple cars with no/minimal aero grip, slick tyres and the right amount of power. we should consider the 2.5l V6 engines popular in hillclimb cars (ex DTM engines), they are good for 400 bhp and are NA (personally thats a key requirement!)Why not just go with 250cc ICC Superkarts?

the ideal series wouldnt be seen as a feeder series, just a stand alone championship for drivers to prove their mettle!!!

It will never happen as all the drivers climbing up the motorsport ladder today want to make a living out of racing, so F1 or a factory drive is the goal. A new series just wouldn't have the financial pull that F1 does. You wouldn't make the money in it.
And if you really wanted to see decent racing that's not F1, go and watch some other form of single seater racing, there's plenty out there with a shit load of decent driving talent on display. GP2, World Series by Renault, F3, F Renault, etc etc.

I suggested this in another thread, but I'll repeat it here:A series with regularly updated spec-chassis but manufacturer-built engines. The engines could be supplied by BMW, Ferrari, Honda. Mercedes, Renault, Toyota, etc., preferably in the NA 6L or Turbo 4L (no restriction on cylinder configuration) type. These should easily produce upward of 800BHP while remaining very reliable.
Qualifying will be an open 1 hour session with up to 2 pit stops. This should be followed up by a shoot-out between the 10 fastest drivers from the open session.
Races should be two per weekend: 1 sprint race with approximately 1 hour duration, and then a 2 hour feature race with reverse grid for top-10 finishers in the sprint race. One pit stop permitted for each race.
Points should be allocated as: 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 for each race. This will give mid-field and back-marker drivers/teams an incentive to try harder to get more points.
Engines should last up to 4 races. 5-place grid penalty if engine change is made before allotted time.
There you go: a series that encourages close racing, keeps manufacturers involved, and reduces cost.
The GP masters almost made a dint in F1.
But for crap engines the series could have run and run.

Unfortunately as the saying goes ... How do you make a small fortune out of motoracing?....start with a big one.
Money has to be chased and all the evils that apply will tag along.
The DTM has a good format and good drivers.
It would be quite amusing if they did a round in single seaters as well as in the DTM cars and combined the two results.
That would be a days entertaining quality racing.
Guess they would have to be in FPA machines.
They could allways put mercedes engines in instead...
But for crap engines the series could have run and run.
That would have been a real 'drivers' championship.
