Hi folks,

BMW have confirmed that they will be entering the American Le Mans Series with the new M3. First race will be the 12 hours of Sebring on Sunday 15th March. However, the race of the year is Le Mans 24 Hours in june.

Would be good to hear from some fellow bmw fans who will be going.

I shall be there for the weekend sadly without a BM though (gotta to take all the gear in a Transit).

Be good to see an M3 running in GT2 if it happens.

It's highly unlikely that the M3 will be at Le Mans as it doesn't meet ACO criteria.

However you never know and it would be nice.

IIRC The current/new BMW M3 would be eligible under ACO rules. The ACO banned the previous M3 GTR because the road going vehicle was based on a straight-six block and not the V8 it actually raced with in the ALMS. IMSA, the governing body of ALMS and the ACO, the governing body of all things Le-Mans, differ in certain areas of compliance and rule making. Would be great to see the M3 GTR back at Le Mans and competing in the GT2 class.

By running what to many was considered an illegal car.

from memory. . . porsche have in the past have made a clever interpritation of the rules too. . dont forget the Dauer 962 that won in 1994. . . This alleged street-going GT car was nothing more than a Group C Porsche 962 in thin disguise. . . oh and the 911 gt1 that won in 1998....
