Suspension....confusing....what to spend....

Definitely looking at new suspension and considering my options.....
I've trawled through all the previous threads and seen the 'banter' so I'm more after some straight facts here.
I drive fast road with about 4 track days a year.
Money is tight at the moment but I've allowed myself about £2k for 18 inch wheels and suspension. Will be fitting susp myself and then getting it setup by a pro.
So facts I can gather Ohlin are very highly rated but too much for me! Nitrons seem next best rated but still expensive then you have Gaz, Protech and a few others....
So facts that I have cut and pasted (but don't necessarily understand)....
Protech £581.00 - alloy bodied adjustable damper , 16mm piston rods and 2 inch alloy bodies, 3 year guarantee. These seem good - anyone any opinions?
Gaz Gold £530 - steel barrel and piston with all other components in alloy Nickel plated front and rear damper, Warranty??? Lots of PH users seem to rate these. I've read lots of positive things about Gaz - has anyone got any negative statements?
Nitron £1,110.38 - gas monotube shim type with a high pressure gas charge. large piston area and an all alloy construction. What warranty? Are they twice as good?
Is anyone on Gaz /Protech regular trackday'ers or racers? Are they OK for this?
Does anyone know of any special offers etc on any of these?
I am sure that Nitrons etc are excellent but am struggling to spend twice the amount from others....especially as I'm not an amazing driver.

I'm in the same situation, Mines a Tuscan S and needs new shocks as one appears to be leaking. I think the S handles very well and is comfortable on the motorway, having had uprated shocks on the Griff before I lost a lot of ride quality for improved handling, not looking to do that again though.
Protect sound good as Joolz will valve them to suit your driving style which seems the biggest bonus over the other cheaper shocks. Haven't heard many comments on their life span though.
I have Gaz shocks on my MX5, that handles fantastically but it's still comfortable, only down side to them is the adjuster seems to have seized a little.

Racing Red £646 This new Racing Red damper uses gas pressure monotube technology.
with comments cut and pasted....
You can compare Racing Red with Nitron and Ohlins but only as the method of construction, they are a mass-produced monotube and set up with valving and springs for road use and occasional trackdays.
If you are looking for bespoke valving and springs I would ignore them and look to Nitron or Ohlins because volume production means we have to fix bump rebound ratios and springs.

I agree that actually Protech seem to be a decent compromise...so why have more people not got them fitted??Anyone any reports on the Racing Red shocks?

More down to marketing than anything I think. We run protech on our T350 race car and it scoots round the bends on rails Anyone any reports on the Racing Red shocks?

Stop tempting me to SP12's!!!I'm looking at 12k service, wheels, tyres and suspension in next month...only had the car a few weeks!!
Done loads of Tuscans and recomend the following, subject to depth of pockets and usage.
Gaz Gold definately work well and out of 20 cars I have fitted out in the last few months no probs, Racing Reds are the new kids on the block and I'm kitting out a Tuscan next Wednesday for a customer and we will be doing the fitting and valving check down at Topcats to get a second opinion (watch this space), Nitron are tried and trusted but now clipping the 1K before VAT so some may baulk if not trackday stars looking for specific valving, Ohlins are ace, set up a Cerbie last night and I thought is was great but £1450 plus the chancellors bit? same for Intrax, great shocks but does the avearage Joe need them?
I'd talk to your local specialist and then buy through them if you intend to fit them yourself and then get geo done by them after. Don't leave the geo because Tuscans def need good geo because they tramline more than most.
