Just took my car in for it's first service. Apparantly Lotus have issued a service bulletin to dealers that because there are no front wheel arch liners there is a possibility that damage can be caused to the front clam due to stones/debris being thrown up and hitting the top of the wheel arch and going straight through the bodywork!.

No fix is suggested other than applying 3M style underseal to the front wheelarches to offer some form of protection (at owners cost)

Guess that is one of the quirks you have to put up with when you own a car such as this, but would be interesting to see what would happen if some debris did go straight through the front wheelarch and you tried to make a warranty claim or sued Lotus for fitteness or purpose of the product they are selling.

Thought of that when I was looking round the 2 11 at Castle's, I think they should fit some heavy duty tape or something on the road variants, I think you'd have to be un-lucky thou

Took wheelarches out of Elise for racing, got stones spat all over the engine bay and filled clams with mud.

Can't believe they issued a bulletin for that GLOL

Owners of 211's should really know what they have bought TBH they aren't idiots!

You wouldn't get anywhere - part and parcel of owning a lightweight, stripped back track car.

Few chips, cracks just makes it look like it does a job wink

What a crock. A £40k car with no wheel-arch liners and the potential to knack the clam at every outing. Bargain! rolleyes

You'd only be complaining if they were there that it wasn't a very stripped out racer, they could have saved an extra kilo. :P

Re: my comments above. Why would that be considered a 'worthwhile' weight saving? My opinion on the car is still the same - great idea, somewhat flawed execution. I mean really, how much will 2 liners weigh?

Are you being serious?

40k on a car and you gotta hope it doesn't damage itself on the road? Ridiculous under-development.

The official line from Lotus is that it doesn't have liners as this would affect the airflow.

Which does of course mean I've opened the floodgates for plenty of both informed and ill-informed comment hehe
