Gee, what a rough landing this one was...
Discussion
Came across this today... wow man, talk about a hard hit... would have been pretty interesting inside, imagine a few people would have had their insides shaken about..

Yeah been discussing it over on another part of the forum.
It is so a spoof.
Unless like the General Lee in The Dukes Of Hazzard its capable of instant self repair the arse of that 146 would be somewhat flatter as it has a tail strike.
Also thats some pretty high `g`, think there`d be a fair few injuries amongst the pax.
And lastly, no self respecting pilot would bounce like that without doing a go around as an automatic response.

Its amazing how many lies the camera tells.

I have that van clip but without the music and text credits. I wonder how they did that cos whoever landed in that van would be milkshake It is so a spoof.

That IS a heavy landing, there's no doubt & the aircraft wouldn't have been used again til it had been meticulously checked out. Having said that, looking at it again & again, 1) the tail doesn't impact all that hard, if at all...lack of sparks or any sign of scraping...they have a tail bumper anyway...2) I would say that the aircraft was only lightly loaded - minimum passengers etc - hence the amount of bounce...but it DID nearly tip over & 3) either the pilot had a serious glideslope/heading problem OR that was one hell of a side wind for him to have been approaching at that speed.
There are signs in the vid that indicate to me that it's a genuine vid...lift dumpers going up & down as the weight is loaded/off loaded on the gear & wing flex etc with each bounce; the very HUGE rudder input by the pilot just before touch down to try to straighten the jet up, are things your usual photoshop/videoshop editor would not have put in!
Edited to say: think about this - EVERY landing is a controlled crash!

This really is a genuine vid!! Happen to be an airline pilot and we are shown this clip a lot to illustrate a few things....(not to do!). Actually I have seen worse at London City. Whilst waiting to takeoff once, this chap (in a 146 too) got his landing wrong and scraped the tail of his jet half way down the runway. Scary at the time, funny now! Bouncing is common too cos the approach there is very steep compared to other airports and easy to mis-judge. Must say though that the crew in that vid were very lucky. Had that wing hit the runway I doubt that vid would be on youtube. Shocking landing!

how can you say it is a spoof? I have actually been in a dc-10 heavy landing which bounced it hard back up then back down hard again. So much so that cabin crew were scared and bagage came out of over head lockers - not everythign has to be a spoof just because you read it somewhere on the internetsIt is so a spoof.

Sorry bmad - I wasn't saying it wasn't real, I was trying to explain to crisisjez (in a roundabout way) why I thought it wasn't a spoof. I'm a technician/engineer & have to repair these things, even sometimes with the help of a vid like this one to determine exactly how many times it bounced or DID the tail hit etc! ALL very helpful stuff! It also shows that after touch-down, the a/c is still 'slewing' to the left even under braking. Bet the pilots de-brief to the engineers was a good-un - after he'd changed his trousers!!!

Yeah I bet the poor sods wish it hadn't been caught on camera! Sure you would have your work cut out after a landing like that. Mind you I have seen a fair share of hard landings in my time. Banged in some myself too!! Not quite to that standard! Luckily on the airbus if you slap one in real hard you get awarded with a printout in the cockpit almost immidiately telling you so. Not seen one yet despite seeing and doing some bangers! I was told you need to touchdown in excess of 600 feet per minute to trigger the warning. A normal landing is typically around 100-200 fpm!
Anyway this is too much like work so...............................has anyone tried Millers Octane boost plus? Well I have been doing so for the past few fills and seriously, there is a noticable difference in acceleration and overall smoothness, (VXR8 with Wortec sport pac). Its obviously not night and day but quite addictive. Maybe I am imagining it but from a pure feel point of view there is a difference.

A question to all you pilot/airline industry related peeps, what was the outcome/reason why the 777 nearly didnt land at Heathrow last month. It suggested a reason within days, but cant recall seeing anything. Did it run out of fuel and they are too embarrassed to say ??
Biggest rumor is that the fuel was either contaminated ot partly frozen, which would cause double engine failure. Very unlikely it ran out of gas, there are so many warnings of this a long time before it actually runs out. All speculation however!
take a look here for peoples opinions...

Its very unlikely that fuel could of frozen unless it had a high level of water saturation. Even then it is run through many stages to warm it up flowing through fuel cooled oil coolers, ie the fuel cools the oil-oil warms the fuel. The main finding is the 777 may have computer software bugs that plague all aircraft systems.
If it was low on fuel, correct the pilots would of been aware through various cautions and master warnings.
Ps that video is not a spoof, that is a damm heavy landing boy!

I agree its very unlikely the fuel froze however talking to an ex 777 captain recently apparently there is a fuel freezing drill peculiar to the 777 so it is a known issue. Unlikely however otherwise these things would be falling out of the sky every other week!!

Not read it anywhere, its just my opinion which you are of course entitled to disagree with.
Nothing about that landing looks right. (To me )
Unless both pilots had their hands over their eys instead of on the control`s.
And there`s a whale of a difference between a firm landing and a bounce and what you are seeing here.
BTW 600fpm equates to about 6mph and close enough to that speed the electric death jet does tell tales.
The result is the aircraft is thoroughly examined by engineering to a shedule ratified by Airbus which can take days.
I have been flying commercially for 20 years and have never experienced one so I doubt very much wether you ever will.
That 146 hits the ground way over 6mph
