Yes..I was caught in the act. Chilli is an undercover PH biker detective. He caught me asking advice on buying a cheap runaround on the car forum.....I can't say how sorry I am...to all of you. I feel in some way I have let you all down. He is good...very good. Never go to the darkside...he will find you...ohh yes..he will find you.

Anyway..Im half p'd watching Aberdeen hump Bayern Munich..Ive confessed my sins..so i will ask you guys a similar question to what i asked the darksiders. You all know the reasons I can't ride for a while (went to docs today..didnt go well)..so i was sick relying on other people to take me to hospital, docs, physio etc. So i asked about a cheap runabout.

Question was..Is it possible to buy a runabout that would last at least 6 months for £500....your turn, maybe in 6 months I will be able to ride again but will be to impatient to save for a decent bike...So...can you buy a decent bike that wont cost much repair wise for £500 and run it for quite a while?

I hope now that I have confessed and asked you guys a similar question i may be forgiven......

I'm off to finish the job...get properly drunk now..half time 2-1 Aberdeen...cmon the dons.

All the best guys

Barry.

much better than a rotten festa or a sodding nova eh?

I think (OK hope) that a lot of bikers have a cheap runabout plus a bike.

Some people in here agree with me http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I have a shitter... got it for free.

There's something satisfying about infinitely increasing the car's value by filling the fuel tank.

And you can park it right at the front at the supermarket without worrying.

Take dirty stuff to the tip.

Crash it.

The list goes on. For £500 notes you should get something that'll last. I'd encourage you to spend less though driving

The absolute best car you can have for under £1000 is a Peugeot 306. These things are frikkin amazing. They go on, and on and on and on and for french cars are rather anoyingly capable of going on and on and on.

Seriously, these are cracking bits of kit, if you just need to get about.

Oh, and get a really fast bike, too.

Sorry Barry....had to do it mate!!!

Didn't JC buy a volvo for £1 once? The dealer had to get shot and would have cost them £150 ish to lose it? Just a thought.

The Docs didn't go well then? Slow progress?

Cheers.

Driving a snotter is the way forward, used to have the lotus before i started the house renovation, now run round in a right nail, makes a fantasic skip.(looks included!) it's amazing how much you can fit in a clio. and cost me 400 quid this year including everything(Ins,Tax,Mot). And it makes you appreciate the bike more.

I love cars too and don't give a toss if this doesn't make a 'proper biker' wink

Driving a snotter is shite... I've never felt so miserable (not generally, I just mean general automotive satisfaction levels) when I've had to run around in some old shitter and that was a big old lush carlton... old french cars... fook that, life's too short hehe

You're better off with a Citroen ZX ...same car underneath, but much cheaper due to zero kudos rating smile
If you get an oil burner, they will run quite happily on veg oil.

Yup-he wants to hear what specialist says on March 12th..says I really need to stay on all the tabs I'm taking, but gave me advice on slowly cutting out the Dihydro's...hopefully specialist will feel sorry for me on half wages and say i can go back - but the work won't let me go back till I'm off these loppy pills - I work in a police DNA lab - don't want to feck anything up in there ! I'm going to try myself on slowing these pills down, see how sore i get ! Aiming to be back to work sometime in March.

Ohhh meant to say Chilli-you've never caught me in the food n drink section!!

So you ain't that good tongue out

All the best mate.

Hmmm. Gotta go with the docs though mate, eh? Getting back to full £'s is one thing, but you don't want to run the risk of long term issues.
Job sounds interesting. So you basically help nail the bastids with DNA evidence, that kinda thing?

ps - Must stalk harder!

Yup - won't go to much into it mate - don't want to get into hot water. I ( and my g/f ) profile samples for the Police - we do Paternity also, civil and criminal and body ID. So yes we help the Police arrest the scum that commit all crime. Police routinly swab anything for DNA now, all profiles are put onto a national database. Laws are different up here to in England as to if they can be kept on if found not guilty of a crime.
Done it since 96 - bit boring now, but they have been very good with me and my back problem - falling to half £ is due to being off for 6 months - but thats procedure, they have been good wi me.

Cool, sounds better than a normal 9-5 office job. Have you got a date planned where you can go back full time yet? I guees no-one has told you but you must have a rough idea in your head? Tis good to have an employer that cares, to a degree eh? Makes a world of difference.

It's up to the specialist mate, I might need another operation, feeling things are getting a bit better, so Im hoping to be back in March sometime. In July I drop to 0 wages cos I would have been off for a year ! They keep your job open for you, but that won't happen, like I said I'm guessing I should be off the pills in March/April. Cos the pills make my head mince, my doc calls it wooly head syndrome !, the work won't let me back till pills have stopped. They won't stop till I'm not in pain without them. Have to slowly come off them, that starts this week, then in March see specialist/surgeon who will decide if I need another scan/op. After the surgery you have to give your back months to settle, apperntly my pain is cos I've been overdoing it. Aiming for mid MArch thou.

P.s We work flexi-time in our job, i do roughly 37 hours a week - when at work !
