Photos from Riponian Rally - 56k warning
Discussion
Well, I finally finished cutting down and sorting out the photos from the Riponian Rally last sunday...what a day it was with Woolleson, Vette_1978 and myself wandering around in the mud getting stones and gravel chucked at us at an ungodly spead
The weather was absolutely fantastic and Im looking forward to the next outing
Anyway, heres some pics from the day - Hopefully Phil and Jason will contribute too?

Nice to see a 6R4 where it should be
Great pics Scotter!
I love the old 6R4's, but the Puma looked to be much faster
Great pics Scotter!

Thanks Al

Want to know what's faster? YHM!

I don't know what the current spec is but when they built them, they were Escort Cossie or WRC running gear under a Puma shell. Kev Proctor and Dave Brown both had them. Mint pieces of kit!
I had a feeling you would know DaveIt was seriously quick, seriously loud and the wastegoat was unloading every couple of seconds with some ferocious intensity

Great action photos again Scott
I like the little green Mini (one of the 1st shots)
and the TR7/8? - but why did he have his lights up?
Surely they cause drag and stand a high chance of getting smashed?
Well done
Cheers

As for the TR7 V8, I dont think there are many Rallys where aerodynamic drag will come into much effect to be fair...mabye Greensleeves can clarify
Plus it looks cool with the pods up

V nice pics
Dave's puma is indeed escort wrc running gear and a beautiful piece of machinery. Kev is using his in the british rallycross championship, so does not have the restricted turbo. Last time I saw it I think it was running circa 650bhp without any great mods (well maybe a cone filter, big bore exhaust & some go faster stickers......)
Dave Browns popping puma

All the logic says they should be down. You actually reach flat in top on a load of occasions in Dalby and Langdale (although not used on the Riponian) so the drag will come in to it, I'm gearded for 120, can't vouch for the TR.
I don't know how heavy the mechanisms would be? Perhaps they're either heavy, unreliable or vulnerable to rock damage so it's best to lock them up to either save weight or prevent the car from retiring from an event for something as simple as the lights not working?

I've absolutely no idea.

I know there were a couple of points where the hammer remains fully down around Dalby, actually fairly sure I heard you heading towards us at one point (or was that the gearbox? )IIRC the TR7 light units are the same ones that TVR nicked for the early wedges. That being said, the mechanisms probably take quite a beating in Rally conditions so he more than likely does lock them up to reduce the risk of failure?
How did that post come accross??? Coherent??
Im still drunk from last night
