Because it would be crap? biggrin

No tanks (well not good ones anyway) No aeroplanes.

It would all be mud and trenches and the occasional suicide charge into no mans land.

No I have a PS3 and the link refers to both the 360 and PS3: "Set in the war-torn trenches of World War I Europe, “To End All Wars” will deliver unrivalled atmosphere and realism, bringing the mud strewn horror of this most desperate of conflicts to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 formats using Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 technology."

Thank you very much for the link!

Fairly sure there was a mod for Half life 1 based on trench warfare was excellent as far as I can remember sadly its most likely dead now.

Although I think the dev team is making a sequel for half life 2.

There was a WWI mod for Battlefield 2 being made but I have no idea if it has been finished yet.

Indeed.

Compare that to COD 3 moving around different village/town/fortress areas of Brittany, or COD 4 moving to very distinct and atmospheric areas around the world.

For WWI you could have Ypres, the Somme, then there was the second battle of Ypres... All of which were fought as a war of attrition where no real gains were made and after a couple of weeks the whole area turned into mud, barbed wire and trenches.

In fact the only major movements were made when gas was used to kill of whole areas of enemy emplacements.

Apart from possibly the educational perspective, I do think that compared to similar games now, it would be very one-dimensional and all of the actual events and weapons of the war could not really be implemented, for example gas attacks.

Battlefield 1918 mod for retail Battlefield 1942 game.

Quick screen cap of a couple of German WWI A7V Tanks.

There's also bloody big airships and plenty of planes.

The one for Battlefield 2 should of course be much better.
