Is this a launch by stealth? I haven't read anything in the motoring press (Car, I don't take a weekly) or the Times/Sunday Times. I'm off to a dealer launch next week, having seen the car last weekend but it would be good to hear what the journo's have to say about it. Is the more off-road biased Escape worth paying for (go to the French Jura often for skiing, occasional use off road)? Or is the standard car up to the job?
The 1.4 petrol is a strange option, so presumably the diesels are the preferred powertrain - any thoughts?

First impressions (of the car in the showroom) are that it is well priced, reasonably spacious, reasonably well built with interesting options (massive sunroof, park assist). Should I wait for what will presumably be its arch-rival the Ford Kuga?

We're looking at one now, the Escape model has the same 4wd system so there is no real advantage in going for the Escape unless you need to go offroad and make use of the higher nose and extra protection fitted underneath
