Buying a Cerbera - tips?
Discussion
Hi all....
Itching to buy a 4.5 cerbs, got around 18k to burn,,,,, i need to know what should i be looking for when i buy? I've heard so many storys, i don't want to buy a duff one...
Also, what are the running costs? looked on the web and I've got an idea of the costs of servicing, just wondering in reality, what this car actually costs to run!!
Any help, information would be great!
thanks

[blatant plug mode on] Or just come and buy mine! [blatant plug mode off]
The key with these things is to know the provenance of the car, or to have an expert take a good look over it. Wadges of receipts and/or records of maintenance/replacements/upgrades are all good things.
Buy on condition, and worry less about age and number of owners than you would on a normal car.
Most owners would be happy to spend time with you discussing their pride and joys - you'll find a huge amount out by using that time.

Hello Hightower.
I bought my car after doing all my research on this forum.
Everything you need to know is here, trust me, the people on this part of Pistonheads are owners, enthusiasts, admirers, ex factory workers, car salesmen etc...
I did a slightly crazy thing as I bought mine without so much as seeing it in the flesh so to speak beforehand.
I did my research very thoroughly though beforehand and this payed dividends as I am very pleased with the car I now own.
A couple of tips:
1. Research, Research, Research
2. Your not going to find a Cerb where nothing goes wrong with it, they are high maintenance performance cars and thus the expense is in maintaining and running such a thing.
eg. Formula one car/ do a few laps/ replace broken bits
3. The Cerbera 4.5 is a wonderful piece of British motoring history, legendary. Your not going to be able to use and APPRECIATE it, if your thinking it would be fun to use to go to work in each day etc. (daily commute)
4. Beware of usual motoring scams and do your checks prior to purchase to see if the vehicle is stolen or a write off etc. I don't want to put you off , but I did come across a 4.5 advertised on here that was previously an insurance write off being sold by a dodgy builder for £18k - so normal rules apply when you are parting with your hard earned cash.
5. You will love your new Cerbera.
Good luck, message me if you need any more specific advice, i would be glad to assist and pass on what I have learned so far.

Having chased beanz's tail pipes for miles through the Sussex and Kent countryside this morning en route to Sunday Service, I have only one thing to say...

BUY IT!Gorgeous motor
No Russel, it was about 6 months ago, it's long gone.
It was a silver/purple illusion type colour simmilar to the one I own now.
There was absolutely no mention of any damage in the advert and the price did not reflect a damaged/repaired car (it had been written off).
Pictures of the car at the time showed new type headlights, but the front end just did not look right and that proved to be the case.
The guy was also very difficult to get hold of on the phone etc. (alarm bells ringing all round)
I had to inform him via email that I had no intention of buying a car that had been declared a write off - I NEVER HEARD FROM HIM AGAIN.
£30 or £40 to do the checks online, can't recall the exact price, I was out of pocket of course, but it did not hurt as much as £18k would have.
