drivers door wont open from the outside and it feels like there is no tension on the handle but it opens perfectly from inside so as you can imagine rather a pain, anyone know what its likely to be and as always with parts for them, just how expensive is it likely to be?, it was very strange it was fine one minute then just stoped working.

Don't know what is in there but most door mechanisms are just connected with wire rods. Most likely one has fallen off. They are usually held in place with a metal or plastic clip which may have broken.

Sounds like the door latch is broke. Not uncommon like the previous P38.As with any thing associated with the L322,expect to part with the wonga.

its not mine, just looking after it for a friend as he didnt want to leave it unattended for 2 weeks while on holiday outside his house so i wont be paying out, i just felt a bit bad about it and wondered if there was a quick easy fix and if it was common, it has however made me want one of my own more than ever and i am considering one for my next car but i dont know if i can bring myself to spend the extra money on one over the other 2 cars im considering (Merc CLK Cabriolet and Mitsubishi Evo 7) im slightly worried about the servicing costs on them as ive driven a few of them but havent had to pay for the upkeep!!, i would 100% go for the V8 as unfortunatly ive been subjected to the TD6 and wouldnt part with my money for one, but finding a decent one for a decent price is proving rather hard, i have to admit as much as it pains me to say i would ideally want a black one with black windows redface also really like the Oslo blue and the metallic grey but am not fond of any of the other colours, Epsom green looked fantastic on the P38 but doesnt suit the L322 at all in my opinion.

If it is the door latch, then no quick and easy fix.Needs a strip down of the door plus the part.Getting back to L322 ownership.I have driven all of the current range of LR products bar the new Defender 2.4TDci.Ihave to say that over the years LR have been increasingly more reliant on electronics in there products. This so more than evident in the current range.Last year after selling the P38 i was in a dilema over what to buy.L322 or a 50th Anniversary 90.A bit of a difference but i always wanted one.The L322 that was promised to me never materialised.and this is where i put my sensible head on.Having owned my previous P38 for 9 years and suffered all the problems that occured with the P38,i decided that i wanted something that was a bit easy on the repairs front. Both mechanically and finacially.Thats why i went for a very clean 50th.I dont have the complicated electronics of the RR,s,But i still have a very silky smooth 4.0 V8 coupled to an equally smooth (non electronic controlled)Auto box.I have had it from June of last year, and up until now it has'nt cost a penny in repairs i absolutley love it.I just wished i had bought one years ago.I admit it does'nt have the comfort of the RR.But it,s smooth on the road. And to be honest handles better than the previous RR.It does'nt roll in the corners on hard throttle. Its been bullet proof.Getting back to the L322.We seem to see a lot more coming through the workshop, than the previous P38.The attrition rates are quite high on a vehicle where the earliest are only 6 years old.The systems are more complex on the L322 and a hell of a lot more expensive than the P38.Seeing them come in on a daily basis and leaving with huge bills, makes me think i made the right choice.Would i have one???Yes but only for a brief period, and nothing like the lenth of time i had the P38.The V8 90 meets all my needs for the time being.

in honesty the only LRs i like enough toown are the Range Rover and the Defender, i dislike the RR Sport the back doesnt look right on it and i the interior just isnt the same as the proper one, never been a great fan of the Disco or Freelander either, the Defender to me just is a cool car (esecially in tomb raider esque trim) and as you say much easier to work on and they hold thier money exceptionally well, we all know about P38s being a potential moneypit 9 times out of 10 but i was always under the impression that the L322 was overall a much better built car other than a few weak points like the front diff and injectors on the TD6, thanks for been honest about them i think it might just have been enough to put me off!!.

In all honesty, when you get under the skin of both vehicles,in some aspects the P38 looks a better built vehicle. There are parts on the L322 that look like cost cutting issues.I think the initial praise of the L322 was based on it being a new vehicle and problems being dealt with over the previous model. It is'nt until you get to the stage where we are out now 6 years down the line that the problems are creeping out.Yeah they are great vehicles until they are out of that warranty and you have to foot the bills yourself.Thats when reality sets in.For example, there was another 322 in this week with yet another dud alternator on a vehicle that had covered less than 70,000mls.Not only that, the f**king things are a sealed watercooled unit.Who needs watercooling on a alternator for f**ks sake.£570 for the alternator and labour on top,and the owner was walking away with a bill of £800.£140 on the P38 for the alternator from a motor factors and easy access to do the job.Unlike pulling 1/2 the car apart on the 322.The PRICE...of progress ehh...!.
