Hi All,

this is my first post so G'day!

I'm entering into my first competition [circuit not rally] series this year and have been told I must run a 1B tyre. My vehicle is a little Peugeot 205 Gti. So i've narrowed the two tyre choices down to...

Kuhmo Ecsta V70A
Hankook Ventus Z211 [RSS]

My questions are as follows:
1 - has anyone any experience of the Hankook tyre? Good/bad/indifferent?
2 - Are there benefits to running [is it worth my while] a more narrow tyre on the front [185/55/15] and a wider tyre on the rear [205/50/15] etc or the other way around with my FWD racer?

Thanks all!
PJ

A wider contact patch on the rear (even a tricycling Pug) will cause the balance of grip to favor the rear.

Use 4 205 50 15's on minimum 5 1/2" wide wheel. For rotation for more economy.

Balance the grip by 1, lowering the rear pressures relative to the front by 5+ Psi or 2, raising the rear pressures relative to the front by 5+ psi.

Both methods will leave you with more grip in the front.
Method 1, makes the rears lose grip more abruptly.
Method 2, makes the rear breakaway more benignly progressive. The car will tend to rotate more eagerly.

If you want more understeer, you could decrease the front pressures to be slightly lower than optimum.

Do the pressure adjustments by 2 psi or less each time.
