Hi there,

I've recently fitted the SP12, 17 front and 18 rear.

Looks great but if the car sat lower I think it would look terific!

Can anyone tell me how much lower a 2003 450 would be when fitted with nitrons or GAZ gold compared to the original set-up?

I understand you can adjust the ride-height with this suspension but within what limits?

Thanks for your reply.

BTW, GAZ or nitrons???

Do you want performance or looks? pimp-mobile or sports car?

I want a race car WITH race car looks.

I don't know of too many racers that increase rideheight in order to go round bends quicker. . .

The damn thing must get lower,

Don't panick though, I'm not planning to get it pimp-car-low. Don't wanna hide my shiny new alloys wink !

That's a shame, because what you have is a road car. If you simply lower the ride height you will censored up the handling. So you have a choice: looks, or handling?

I notice you guys both have nitrons fitted . . .

I would be nice to know your findings.

I don't want to get in this looks versus racing debate. argue

Just thought I'dd ask this simple question on the chimaera forum . . .

You got a simple answer(s), no point paying for Nitrons to improve handling if you set ride height too far away from the wishbone design geometry wink

The most common handling problems are caused by owners setting the cars too low anyway IMHO.

Completely agree with this yes.
I've just changed my shocks and the first thing I want to see is the height is pretty close to standard. The amount of TVR's you see that are 'slammed' close to the ground is frightening, you couldn't get a fag paper between the wheels and the arches but it looks 'wicked'. You don't have to go too far below standard to get the suspension arms pointing upwards and the geo complete fubarred, bump steer anyone. Lowest you should take it is to have the wishbones level. AIMHO etc.....

Ive got SP12 and adjustable shocks on my car and IMHO the height looks perfect, I'm in total agreement with the previous posters about level bottom wishbones and steering rods and mine are.
I'll try and get a photo sorted out at the Herts and Beds meet tomorrow because there are usually a couple of cars running those wheels.

It's perfectly possible to have your car lower, but dont try it on a set of dampers designed to be a replacement for the original equipment versions .. you'd want to spec the damper body lengths and the spring rates and then the valving requirements to suit your new lower ride height. bottoming out is going to be your main concern, as well as reducing the increased roll which comes from lowering the car and the effective point of roll .. in short you need the car MUCH stiffer if you even go slightly lower otherwise you introduce all sorts of headaches. How low do you want to go?

Yep, just stick to sensible ride heights or you will need to stiffen up to stop bump-steer.
However, the SP 18 and 17 inch seem to fill the arch fine without compromising wishbone levels

Ok Guys,

see what you mean.

When I'm in the office I'll try to post some pics.

Says more than a thousand words...

My car sits, unlike most others I see, a bit higher on the front axle.

Was like that when I bought it.

I want it at least to sit level.

Have you guys some pics with the nitrons/GAZ fitted?

Thanks,

Filip
