Hello all.

You may have seen some of my other threads regarding buying a Cerb. Well I went to look at this today....

TVR CERBERA 4.2 V8 AJP , 2 Doors, Manual, Coupe, Petrol, 1997 R Reg , 22,800 miles, BMW Violet Metallic with Grey Leather. Air-Conditioning, PAS, 16" Alloys, CD Player, Push Button Start, Electric windows, Electric Adjustable Mirror, Remote Central Locking, Immobilizer, Tinted glass. Lumber Adjustment, TRACKER, Thatcham 1 Alarm, Stainless Steel Sports Exhaust, 350bhp, 0-60 = 4.2 secs, Full Service History From New, Spare Keys, 12 Months Mot, Warranty, P/X, A Beautiful Original Low Mileage Example, £12,999

My father (chim owner and also in the trade owning his own garage) is going to call to discuss the car, and price etc - depending on what happens certainly a car I would be interested in. Looked very nice - I was concerned about the colour but after seeing this in the flesh I could certainly cope seeing this in my garage!

There are a few scratches etc which is to be expected for a car 10 years old, but there was a crack all the way down the left hand side of the windscreen. It appeared to be on the inside as you couldn't feel it at all from the outside. The guy told me this was common and therefore they have not bothered to replace, but have accounted for this in the price. Sounds a little strange to me, I have never heard of this reading through these forums, can anyone shed any light?

I've mentioned this in my thread else where, but what do you make of this? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/185700.htm
Been reduced a few times, anyone know why it hasnt been snapped up?

I reckon that Red one hasn't been sold because it's either too cheap, so people think there must be something wrong with it and don't bother looking, or there is something wrong with it.

Looks like the footwells have been full of water at some point (although that's not uncommon).

I wasn't aware of cracked windscreens being common. Just that new ones were extremely hard to get hold of.....

Other side seems different.. cant say I even noticed that when I went to view it!

But again, thats nothing uncommon? Another thing I cant really say I've come across reading around these parts...

I'd have the red one over the purple one.

Lots of engine work done, private sale so you can talk to the guy about it too.

Proud of it too, taking it to events etc.

Windscreen will no doubt get a chip in it at some stage & cost you £50 via your insurance. The Red one looks the better buy to me, but if it's "Rosso Red" do a bit of homework on the colour first .

+2.

Just because its up for a cheap price, doesn't always mean its a minger.
Sometimes people reaaly DO need the money for some reson, and want to shift it quick.

You'd be foolish to pass the red one up IMHO.

If you fancy this one, have a chat with David Gerald TVR as they have the stock of windcreens. I think I paid (well insurance) about £500 to get mine replaced. That's why they haven't bothered.

Bargaining points on this age of car: Check the aircon works. If like mine the condensor was leaking then it's a rad out job and about £150 to fix. Also check out the water manifolds from underneath. They are steel and sit exposed to the road salts etc so tend to corrode slightly. 16" wheels are ok but I personally think the 17's suit the car better.

The gray interior is quite nice, I think the colour change on the carpets is just a trick of the digital camera as it's the same in the cubby under the stereo.

The red one looks good as well (and I'd be biased smile ). Worth a look.

chassis condition and service history/condition of the engine is what I would be looking for. Electrics, leaks and ancillary problems can all be sorted without too much expense.

What do you lot reckon about getting them inspected by someone like Rob Ingleby?

I didn't when I bought mine and, on occasions since, have regretted not having this done as it may have turned up some of the issues I missed.

Also that red one was up for a lot more but is now reduced. Seen it advertised quite a bit.

You're not far from me, I'm 5 miles north of Leicester. If you want a go in mine (not for sale smile) to help compare, you would be very welcome. Dave
