Help - Phone Preperation

Wondering if someone can help me. Iv got a 53' M3. When i bought it, i was sure the advert said it had bluetooth phone preperation. On the satnav/tv/cd screen it has an option for telephone. But clicking it brings up the words"activate phone". In the centre console is a tray and pops out so a phone cradle can slip in. Im just curious as to how i would know if it has bluetooth preperation or not. Iv tried pairing my phone with the car with no luck, dunno if im not doing something.

In your manual there will be a pairing code for it. Activate Phone means it is looking for a paired phone and cannot find it.
Have the ignition to 0 and press the pairing button in the car for 3 secs, then move the ignition to 1 and keep it pressed for another 3 secs. Make sure the phone is discoverable. enter the code in the phone.
The tray is there in order to accept a BMW Phone Adapter. This just charges and gives an aerial to a specific phone. The BMW UK website has all of the details of which ones are available. Does not stop it working with most other bluetooth phones.

I cant find a pairing button. Where should it be? I looked at so many cars before deciding on this one i may have another car in mind. But im still semi sure this car has bluetooth and comms pack.

Sorry to hijck the thread but I tried to pair my 'phone with the car (Z4 with Pro Sat-nav) yesterday and having done everything above just kept getting "pairing failed". The 'phone finds the car, I get asked for the code which I then enter, and then nothing. I've tried deleting all paired devices and trying again but that didn't help either. yeah thats right, bizzare but if you have more than 20/30 msgs it stops working for some reason
