Up until this week, absolutely everything has been working on my 1994 Classic RR 4.2 Vogue LSE.

Some weeks ago I started having intermittent problems with the overhead interior lights working (but not the door edge or puddle lamps) - which was resolvable by flicking the door plunger contacts which I figured just needed a clean.
This week though, the overhead interior lights stopped working altogether.

On top of that, yesterday afternoon I had an incident where the electric sunroof would not close - but repeated pressing of the open/close button eventually had it respond and shut.

So today I set about trying to find & resolve the problems. To that end, I have just removed, cleaned, lubricated and put back all the door contacts, checked all the fuses (under dash, seats and bonnet) and changed the bulbs. However the interior lights still don't work. I should also mention that the under bonnet light works fine, so I can't see that it's a door/bonnet contact problem.

I also discovered that the rear wipe won't work either - the washer does, but not the wipe. But the sunroof happily opens and closes today though!

Looking at the handbook fuse box section, it says that fuse 3 of satellite 2 controls the sunroof and rear wiper - but one works and the other doesn't and besides, the fuse is fine, so all in all I am well confused...

Has the same thing happened to any other Classic RR owners and can anyone suggest what to try next please?

The rear wiper is linked in with the door switches.........if any door is open then it will be cut off so as not too burn out the motor if you where to then open the rear tailgate. I couldn't get mine to work properly so I just took a live feed from somwhere so it now works perfectly.

Ahh, as I was fiddling with everything at the time, I did indeed have door(s) open.
I'll try it tonight with the doors closed. Many thanks for this Mike.

Ok, so let's assume that my rear wiper problem is resolved.... but I am still drawing a blank over the interior lights not working (with doors open or closed)!!

When I had a problem with my interior light flashing on my LSE, it was the rear hatch not shut and not the door switches.

I managed to get home before it went dark tonight - and yes this was indeed the problem.
With a door open, the rear wiper won't. Close the door and bosh.
So that's one problem solved.....smile

Thanks for the suggestion here - I've had a look at this tonight too. The upper & lower tailgate are definitely solidly shut but I can't find a switch contact anywhere around the rear end that could be the cause.
So I'm still baffled by the lack of interior lights! wobble

From memory, the switch contact for the tailgate on a classic is actually located on the nearside top tailgate.
It has been about 5 years since I sold mine though, so usual disclaimers apply.

I assume that you've got a copy of RAVE, if so that will tell you for sure, it also has a lot of electrical troubleshooting info for the classic.

I'm afraid I've not managed to get home before it goes dark the last two nights running, so I'll have to look into this at the weekend.

You ask if I have a copy of RAVE. I've probably got a couple of very old back issues of KNAVE in the loft but I'm sorry to say I've not heard of RAVE. lol. What am I missing here... ears

RAVE is the name given to the range rover workshop manuals on CD, these are damned useful for virtually every problem you can imagine, from tracing wiring faults to finding component locations.
It's available on ebay for a few quid, or if you're lucky someone on here may be able to supply you a copy (I'd be happy to, but I'm not back in the UK until March 16th)

Thank you for the suggestion but I'm afriad I am still drawing a blank over this problem, as there is no switch contact to be found anywhere on the top (or bottom) tailgate on the LSE.

Incase it helps anyone else diagnose the problem, depressing the driver's door contact results in a clicking noise coming from under the dash somewhere. Could this possibly be an earth problem, or would other things not be working aswell were that the case..?
