Hi Colin,
I've just had the front end of the Chim resprayed, and asked the very same question. I talked this through with various people, including the chap that did the respray, and i came to the conclusion that i would not have it done.
It seems expensive - it can be more than the cost of the respray! This means that the film would have to last more than twice the life of regular paint to make it financially worthwhile.
Often you can see it, especially if you have the front of the bonnet done.
A biggish stone chip will chip this stuff, and then water could get into and underneath the "chip", potentially lifting it or discolouring it.
When you do come to remove it, it could do further damamge to the paint.
I acknowledge that this may well just be "speculation", but it was sufficient to dissuade me from doing it.
I recal that there was a chap based in Essex who offered one of these jobs as an auction gift during London Thunder. He seemed a decent chap, i'll see if i can dig out his details.

I had the film on my previous car (Lotus), after an expensive paint job. I was very impressed with it. 2.5 yrs down the line and virtually no chips, despite going through a gravel trap at 40+. I am very much thinking it is the way to go, as a dark coloured car soon looks peppered without it. The film I had previously didnt turn yellow after that time either, and I thought very worthwhile.
