Griffith Lights - Xenon or Plasma
Discussion
Hello all,
I have got a 96 Griff 500 and I can't put up any more with using 'candles' to see where I am going at night time.
I was recommended to go to www.demontweeks.co.uk by someone. They do bulb upgrades of various types....Should I go for Xenon or Plasma, which is brighter using the standard wiring?
However yesterday someone else recommended Phillips X-Treme 60/55.
Does anyone know which is the best and brightest white light and ideally legal?

Do a search we have covered this one before. HID is the way to go but there are questions over legality.
In essence to be legal beyond question you need to change for a lamp unit that was originally designed for HID.
The conversion kits that go into the existing units may not be legal and the government website says they think not. However, it reads as though this has never been tested in Court. That suggests that the likelyhood is that this will never be a problem.
The HID gives the best lighting.

I have 7" SE lights, with Modwise brighter lights kit, with HID conversion on dip and main beams including the driving lamps, and it is awesome.
Can't recommend enough, and although there is constant debate on legallity I am seeing so many converted cars driving around and no one seems to be having an issue getting pulled for them, I know it doesn't make it legal because people ignore the law, but seemingly common now.

Just changing the original bulbs for xenons makes a noticable difference.
If you want to go further.......I have just rewired all the lighting on my Griff 500 taking a supply from the starter motor and earthing to the chassis using one of the bolts at the header tank. (As David Beer points out in the original loom the o/s supply to the lights piggy backs on the n/s supply and is inadequate, ditto the earthing in my view.) Everything is now on relays and the original loom wiring is only used for switching the relays. With the correct thickness of cable, a proper supply/earth and xenon bulbs the difference is amazing.
