Ok can anyone please tell me is it critical to have the correct part number for these Air flow meters , as the bosch part number starts at 0280 217 806 I have seen numbers close to these easier to come by and cheaper, can they be used as an alternitive or what ?

also some one tells me I can unplug the plug to the Maf fit a diode and forget it as a cheeper alternative ie giving more power making it a little richer !!!
best answers on a post card please confused

No No No! The Airflow meter is there for a reason, to tell the ecu the mass of air being drawn into the engine so it can inject the correct amount of fuel to maintain an efficient afr. Take that away and your risk your engine. Also a richer than standard mixture will not make more power. It will make less as the combustion is less efficient.

And fit the correct Meter for your car, as some will give different voltages for different air flows.

What car would it be for.
Cheaper MAF's can work on cars such as Golf's etc but I would expect them to be unreliable. Yes a MAF can be bought for 20quid but as it is said in ancient China, you get what you pay for.
If you do some reaearch you may be able to find the origional BOSCH part at a motor factors or such like, search the part number on google. Should bring up a whole host of suppliers. It just takes time to find the cheapest.

On a sideline, if you are just getting symptoms such as hesitation, lack of performance, unstable idle etc, it is always worth cleaning the MAF with some contact cleaner first. K+N filters or just age causes them to get clagged up. I can send you some info on how to do it if you dont already know.

TIA .
Bit of a myth i fancy, the ECU's nowadays are so well sorted they automatically rciher the mixture for full power and lean it off for partial throttle / cruising etc.

There is a difference in the lean / richness of the fuel to give best emissions, best economy and best power, the ecu varies the mixture strength to take advantage of these differences so i very much doubt fooling the MAF will give more power
