How many miles do you get to a tank on a 4L chim and how much do they cost to fill up?

It does of course depend on the price of petrol! I put £50 or super in this morn and I'd hope to get 250 miles if I take it steady, m'way etc, bit prob more like 180ish

£55 from empty(optimistic fuel gauge whoops) with shell vpower got me ~230miles till next fill up which was another ~50 litres, that was on a mixture of 80% fast A roads/motorways and 20% windy back lanes.

Found with the 500 that running at 60 was crap, getting around 150 miles a tank. Get to 80/90 and you can look at around 250. Funnily enough the Tuscan is totally different as in if you drive it steady at 60 it goes forever and 300 to the tank is easily achieved. Wierd eh!

Thanks guys, this is helping me justify my decision to buy one even more now! Seems logical as I'm only getting 215 miles to a £55 tank on a '97 golf GTi, but nowhere near a fun to drive.

I reckon I get around 250 miles from a tank although I've never run the tank too low as you can't trust the fuel gauge, so I have estimated based on fuel used over 3/4 of a tank!

Yes I never let mine go to the red, does it even have a low fuel light? I usually fill up when the needle is between quarter and empty.

Make sure you're making a fair comparison. You would have to be absolutely caning the Golf to get that (or there's something wrong with it), and you're comparing it with a Chimaera driven gently.

I drove from Ireland to Northern Spain and back in my 400HC last September via Holyhead, Sussex, Fernhurst Garage (very helpful guys), Jersey (avoid in a TVR - 40mph limit all over the island), Western France to Bilbao/Santander and then home. Mostly touring with the occasional blat to 'clean the plugs' officer.

Consumption ranged from 17.31 to 30.23mpg. Average over 3046 miles was 26.33mpg
Miles between fills varied from 68 to 277. Usually tried to fill up before a long section of driving. Managed three fills in one day on the way home!
17 to 47 litres range of fills with an average of 28 litres per fill - little risk of running out of fuel there!

Hope this helps. driving

Green, I thought the same as you originally, but have had it checked out and nothing is wrong with it. This is based on a lot of around town driving, no motorways. I have done a long motorway journey and the fuel consumption improves radically! A friend of mine has a 306 2.0 Gti that is the same age and that drinks about the same amount of fuel as my golf.

I did 230 on £45.00 3 weeks ago, all motorway nice and steady. Normally i'm getting 180 miles between fills.

I'm off driving through France, Andorra and into Salou (Spain) in July so i'm hoping for a good mix of economy with m/way and mountain passes.

I got 270 miles from the Griff (500) coming back from Dover last year before it ran out, mainly motorways.

I ran out of juice 1 mile before the services, 90 miles from my sisters house.
I had over 1/2 tank but progress had been brisk!

I think if you achieve 200+ on a tank then you aint driving hard enough wink

I never let mine go below the qtr mark.
Usually around £35-40 will see about 160-180 miles.

You still need to make sure you're making a fair comparison. Round town your new CHimaera will probably be down into single figures. I'm not saying you're wrong to go for it, but if fuel economy is an issue don't kid yourself that the Chimaera is going to be as economical as a Golf.

As Peter says, comparing light throttle cruise consumption with normal driving is pretty meaningless, other than trying to create an illusion that your fuel consumption isnt an issue. Spirited driving in traffic, round town will see you into single figures easily. My usual combination of sweeping A roads with overtaking and town stuff and bits of impatient M-way driving gives me about 12-14mpg on the 450. On a M-way run with minimum acceleration / braking and around 90mph gives me about 24mpg.
