Tuscan Tonnue Cover

Does anyone have a tuscan in bits at the moment, Im looking to borrow bit that goes over the passenger seat, to take a mould off, and then mod the mould to make a panel that would allow the hardtop to be fitted and comply with the msa regs.

I'd use mine but it means taking the screen out, cut out swithch, ecu etc etc which is a real pita

graham I always thought the hard top wasn't allowed with the tonneau because of the reduced escape possibilities and ability of marshalls to retrieve the driver from the passenger side in the event of an accident?

Thats why I need one to take a mould from and modify

basically I'll make a copy then cut the middle section out and re-make the middles section so its flush with the top of the transmission tunnel. which is as high as you can have it and have the roof on.


I could just make a totaly new panel up, but easier to start with an existing panel and cut the middle out as it will then match up to the dash and the back panel. It also means I can make it up off the car.

Graham - I don't think it will be as simple as that and I don't think having a panel off the car will help you much.

If you cut the flat top section out of a tonneau it wont line up with anything when you lower it down to transmission tunnel height. I don't see any way other than screen out, existing tonneau off, then get busy with some pre-prepared flat sections of GRP. Or even better, honey comb for rigidity (you don't want the cover to split and you fall into the passenger bay if you need to get out in a hurry)

Also be careful that when it bolts down it doesn't become a guillotine in the event of a passenger-side impact. Ideally it needs to bolt into a recess below the height of the transmission tunnel. The simplest way may be to use thin ali sheet you can bend to shape, then use that as a template/mould

Im fairly sure I've got the design worked out, and im not using the cut out section that will be a new piece.. I should end up with two moulds, a standard one and the modified one.

There is a fair bit of work as things like the fuel filler need to be moved, if your leaving the tank in place. ( not decided if Im going to move mine yet If i do it will be over the diff)

starting with a stock cover gives me something to play with, whilst the car gets prepped, If it doesnt getfinished no biggie, but I dont want the car in more bits than it needs to.. still got the exhaust housing to remake ( leaking) and the forward gearbox(bellhousing) mounting to fabricate.
