This weekend in Puerto Rico a part chassised, all steel 13B Rotary powered Mazda went 7.09!

Check out the front wheels dangling at half track, bet thats interesting in a 90'' wheelbase car!

Saw this on promodzone, absolutely awesome...especially when he fires it up again at the top end and drives back to the pits.

Wow, thats impressive in that short wheelbase. It reminds me of watching Andy Carters Pop, Kind of gives you a feeling that it may leave the ground at any moment.

That is hugely impressive, it leaves the line with so little fuss.

What kind of power does that Rotary run, i've only read about ones making in the 400hp region?

Dave!

It's probably just under a 1000hp,but it only weighs about 1500lbs...
Pretty cool for a 2 or 3 rotor motor though...

I don't know for sure but I'd reckon on a bit more than a 1000 bhp. To push something that shape through the air at 190+ I'd say it'd be nearer 1100.

  • edit* according to my et calculator it'd be around 1080 at the flywheel and 830 at the wheels, not taking in to account it's erm... "aero package" lol

it's possibe for 1200+hp from a turbo rotary.3 x 160lb per hr injectors per rotor needed at that level.I use 2 x 160lb per hr per cylinder.
They might be small but they are powerful.I learned a lot from Steve at www.mpsys.ca about these engines. Also the most powerful rotaries use Electromotive because their timing system is accurate to 1/4 of a deg.The downside to those engines are if they knock once they break the seals..

10,000 to 12,000 depending on what's in it...don't forget there are no cams, valves, springs etc.Just ports in the cylinder wall....

My guess would be turbo methanol.
There are 2 current projects in germany with that wankel setup,
one in an old beetle, one in a vauxhall chevette......yikes ,
the builder/racers are aiming for a "learning season" first.
Cheers,
Benni

Mark Watkins used to run a red Mazda RX-7 with a wankel in the 90's and that was loud!

So loud that if i remember correctly, Knut had to get him to turn it off so he could hear his FC!
