A while back I had a puncture in my rear tyre (nail in middle as per usual rolleyes )

I did a plunge repair and have been meaning to get it done but quite frankly, I forgot!

It has been on this plunge repair for about 7 months now, tyre never loses any pressure (beyond the 2-3psi if left standing for a few weeks).

Should I get this looked at and repaired properly or just leave the plunge repair in? To be honest it seems fine and most people I have spoken to said they have left plunge repairs in until the next tyre change.

What do you lot reckon? smile

Cheers

Unsure about this. I did a 'plug' repair on a scooter tyre I use for work in decent weather and that's been fine, but with higher rated tyres such as the Z some tyre dealers won't even consider a repair.

I think if it were me, I'd rather be sure and replace the tyre on my SP1 or 1150GS than repair it. I'd hate for my last thought to be I wished I'd replaced that tyre. My Brother has been really unlucky with bike tyres, his last three rears have all picked up punctures way before they were nearing wear limit.

No tyre dealer will repair a 'Z' rated tyre, but I have used the get me home plugs a few times and then let the tyre run to the end of it's life without any issues.

I think the thing to be aware of is that you risk tyre failure if you do exceptionally high speeds.

Sorry thats just not true. I've been getting Z rated 'rear' bike tyres professionally repaired for the last 8 years.. I've had too many fixed to remember exact numbers. Once these are pro fixed from the inside you just use the tyre as normal.

In answer to the OP the plug repairs are only temporary and very much speed restricted, you must get the tyre repaired by a pro tyre shop who can only do this by removing the tyre from the rim. I wouldn't be running a plug for any length of time on a regular basis.

yes I know of at least one tyre supplier that repairs them, subject to certain conditions,

But definitely get it repaired properly asap or replace it.
