Does anyone know what sort of power can this box take (6 speed with LSD) without any mods?
I was thinking of adding some sort of cooling, and any ideas would be welcome.

Hi Jonathan

It all depends on what your intended use for the car is! Torque is the main problem for any box with a 7.5 inch crown wheel. Most of the gearbox folk say they are good for 500lbs of torque. Above that figure it is best to go for a box with a 9 inch crown wheel. Those are the G50/50 and G50/52 and also the G96/50 and GT2/GT3 boxes. Cooling is not really an issue unless you intend to race. Track days should not really be a problem. I'm in the process of changing my G96 Getrag for a custom built G96/50. My main reason for this was that I am already producing over 700lbs of torque and there is still more to come. I also wanted taller ratios to get me to 200mph and bring down the revs while cruising. My clutch was slipping on my last dyno session so I am now fitting a new triple plate organic clutch rated at 900lbs.
What sort of torque is your engine producing?

Hi Dave, it started at 515lbs, but after race prep reworking it will be around 600 lbs, maybe more.
Engine internals are being lightened, and theres 4lbs coming off the crank alone.
I believe that these boxes can take quite a lot more, given that theres one running 690 lbs with cooling mods (not sure of the details on that car).
Strange thing is this box runs a 34.2 mph per 1000rpm in 6th (223.8mph at 6500rpm) so someone clearly has been altering ratios in the box before I got it.

I think your right in that they can take more but it all depends on the power band of the engine. Race engines for circuits tend to produce there power higher up the rev range which does not hurt the box so much. But if your doing sprints or drag racing then that's when you need a strong box. There are a few guys using the Getrag G96 with the AS 720 motor. I'd just rather play safe. I tend to over engineer my projects (Vicorian engineer at heart).

I've got a pair of G50 boxes for my race car. One has G50 21 2 stamped on it and the other got G50 3 12 on it. Any idea what models these come from or what ratios might be. I've a ZF LSD left over as well, anyone interested in it ??
