Oversize tyres?

I've tried searching, but not really come up with any answers, so forgive me if this has been asked before, but does anyone know if it's possible to oversize the tyre to a 255/35 on the rear of a Monaro VXR? Just wondered if I could increase the contact patch a little.

I have fitted some pirelli p zeros in that size on the rears and they seem fine.

I don't know about the VXR but 245 is the max you can fit to the CV8 8" rim. Some people have gone wider but it's outside the safety limit.

Although check with your insurer that it doesn't invalidate your policy.

As does a friend. They fit perfectly.

The standard fit 235's are too narrow for an 8" rim.

Toyo T1R proxes extra load and Y rated I believe. Still use 235/40 on the front though.

Yes, they do fit but with Falkens at least it is not a recommended fitment and if you have an accident it will be taken into account and could invalidate your insurance. If you want bigger than 245, I say get wider rims.

Worth noting, incorrect fitment will also earn you 3 penalty points and up to £2,500 fine per tyre if the law get involved.

245 is the correct tyre width for an 8" rim, although oddly Vauxhall didnt see fit to use this.

235 would be too narrow, and 255 too wide, but both are well within any tyre manufacturers specs.

Can you use the 40 sidewall size (rather than 35) on Monaros with standard 18" wheels? (ie. 245/40/ZR18)

I think 235x40 is the original profile so I don't know who put your tyres on. You can use 245x35 but 40 is closer to the original rolling radius so that's what I've got: Falken 452 245x40 ZR18

I'm near getting some new tires and the extra contact patch would be nice.

Maybe a dumb question but what would be the benefit of running 35 sidewalls instead of 40??? Why do some brands have a higher load rating for 245/35 than for 245/40???

At the moment my 'Ro has Bridgstone Potenza RE050 (235/40) front and rear. But I don't find them great. They don't seem to give great traction. So I wanna switch to 245/40 and maybe another brand.
