I've just been looking at their site. The package that includes a merchant account costs between 3.5-4.5% per transaction.

I want to weigh up simplicity with ease of use and a decent rate... Am I likely to do any better than worldpay? smile

You can negotiate a far better rate with WorldPay. What credit card volume are you going to do per annum?

Try Protx, they have a great small business rate (£20 per month) with no other charges up to a certain amount per month of course!

been a while since I have dealt with any of the payment providers, but streamline are another one - depending on your bank I think.

HSBC have an offering for their Business Account holders that works out far cheaper than Worldpay. My wife had Worldpay initially and then switched to HSBC.

I've heard reasonable things about ProtX though.

BTW, FSB = Federation of Small Businesses

Not quite the same thing but I have just had my first payment through Google Checkout and it worked really well, money straight into my account without needing to request it (like PayPal) and no commission as I have a Google Adwords account. Even without that the commission is quite low. I don't do enough transactions presently to warrant a monthly fee account like Worldpay, but Google could be a realistic alternative to look at.

Can you receive off-line payments with Google checkout?

No. The buyer has to sign up for a Google Checkout account before they can send you any money.

I've just been looking into ProtX as my wife has a second website and HSBC want to set up an entire new account for it, with (or course) all the set-up fees etc. And because it is a "new business" (we hotly dispute this) they won't give her such favourable terms.

So I've just looked into ProtX and discovered you need to obtain an Internet Merchant Account and possibly a Mail Order/Telephone Order (MOTO) merchant number from your business bank in order to make use of ProtX.

If you have one of these, or are able to get one, then ProtX is obviously quite appealing but for most traders it is hard to get one, which is where the likes of WorldPay and HSBC come in because you use theirs.

Anyway, just thought people might benefit from knowing this.
