Hello All,

I've been looking to buy a Griffith for some time (I was at the Growl last year - great event) and now the time (well the money reallysmile) has arrived to be able to buy. I have looked at/driven a couple in my local area (East Midlands) but they didn't tick the "this is the one" box. I am interested in looking at the cooper green one being advertised at SSCC in Boroughbridge but before I travel 3 hours does anyone know any 'history' on this one? Also, any tips regarding chassis/outrigger inspection would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,

Ron

Ron, I see you're fairly local to me if you're in Rutland. If you want to see one (albeit in a dark and cramped garage) with the body raised 2" I am happy to show you the chassis so you can see where the potential problems can occur. Mine's just been treated/painted and I haven't got round to dropping the body back down as yet. It'll be going back down within the next couple of weeks if all goes to plan.

(And no, mine's never ever going to be sold because I really really wuv her biggrin)

Ron, I'm between Nottm. and Derby and bought a Griff just before Christmas and went to see this one just prior to that. Firstly I did not buy it because it was well over my budget and I really wanted one with the full leather interior. The car in question, typical dealer price IMHO, looked really good, body/interior etc but I cannot speak for the chassis but the garage owner knows TIVs well and so fairly sure not a bad one. I've stipped, the best I can, the rust on the outrigger and perimeter tubes and repainted them. It is really a job to do with the body off or lifted. I had all the chassis pictures under the sun but the problem is that when you come to inspect you just cannot see the vital areas like behind the triangular gusset plates. Most I looked at had been repainted at some time and to some extent I think it is pot luck as you don't know how well they have been done, only time will tell.

Rob,

Thanks.

eng622,

Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I agree it looks a bit pricey! I have looked at a few and I am trying to get a good one at a reasonable price (who isn't when they are looking tongue out ) I also have had problems assessing the chassis/outriggers on the one's I've looked at so I am taking up Rob's generous offer of having a look at his car whilst it has the body lifted - any extra info can't hurt. Thanks again.

Ron
