My car can turn over a little slow, then turns over fast, but sometimes it would turn over at all (but dash lights come on), someone said its the brushes in the starter motor, anyone had this problem? should i try a new battery first? any ideas.

Does it do it all the time or sometimes when it's hot?

How long are the gaps between usage?

Before going to the expense of buying a new battery have you checked the voltage? A good/fully charged one should be @13.5v. Have you got another battery/car to jump it from to see if the problem still occurs then?

A good one should be 12.7V and looking at a regulated 13.5 - 14V whilst running.

Hi Bomber, thanks for that. Mine's on a trickle charge and I check it every so often, and it's regularly @13.5V smile

Thanks for reply,
I only bought car on saturday, car has only done 1,000 miles in the last year.
Starter seems to turn over very slow at start but does not seem to change between hot or cold i have a electrical engineer comming over tomorrow to look at volts. battery has been in for 3 years and has had a battery conditioner on i think.
