Hi there,

Have upload quite a few pics from the Goldtrack event today at Silverstone.

Some superb cars, shame the weather sucked.

Hope you like them: -

Hi there,

You wouldn't believe me if I told you.

No seriously its a standard Olympus kit lense, this one : -

In fact the one in the link is a newer model than mine.

Currently saving up enough money to change to a bigger and better lense. Looked at the new Olympus 70-300mm on Monday, but might go the whole hog and get the Sigma 50-500mm.
Just not sure if I would use a 500mm zoom.

Regards

Tim

I took my mate's Bigma to Silverstone on the 7th. Damn thing broke my monopod head frown

It's a Canon fit, unfortunately, but if we're ever at the same meet you're more than welcome to try it. I want/need to borrow it again as I need plenty more panning practice.

500mm gets you up close!! Having said that I think most of my shots were on or around the 300mm mark.

Scott

BTW - it had no problem locking on or focusing on the moving cars (contrary to other people's opinions). Anything out of focus was probably my fault coz my panning technique s*cks.

Alot of people are using the 50-500, but its a little soft apparently. I went for the 100-400 L, likewise if we are both at an event your welcome to try it.
To be honest round silverstone you can get away with a only using from 150-300 quite easily.

When I was looking to go long.. a good Bigma looked to me like it would hold its own in sharpness against the 100-400.. just Sigmas QC maybe wasnt (isnt?) as good as it might be with them..

There is a fix you can do yourself.. it means taking the back plate off the lens.. but if your reasonablly technically minded it wont be problem.

I have a link with photos if anybody is interested..

If I had the coin, i'd buy the 100-400 L IS without a doubt. Although some people have told me that IS is useless for motorsport and they don't use it, I think i may need that extra steadying help to get crisper shots. They also said that the Bigma would be useless too. I was proper impressed with it (it is the dearest lens I've used, to be fair smile) The reason I'm trying to get as many events in as possible is to see if my pics get better as my technique improves (then i can save some dosh and buy a cheaper lens). Although much cheaper, and in the shadow of the 100-400, I'm considering the new Canon 70-300 IS lens (has 2 mode IS so panning with it is possible) hoping it will be long enough for grandstand shots from Club.
