Guys,

hopefully going to be doing my first trackday soon and have a question about tuition.

It makes a lot of sense to get some tuition in as early as possible and I would be keen to do this to ensure i get maximum enjoyment/improvement out of my day.

My question is though, how does it all work? I mean, do you turn up in the morning and try and be first in the queue for the instructors, or are there more than one available and, assuming you want to, are guaranteed to get one for your first stint?

Dont know if it makes a difference but im looking at doing an MSV day at Oulton

Cheers

Matt

You should be able to book a slot( 20mins usually) with one of the circuit instructors. It will be raised at the briefing before you go on track.

They`ll give you a time slot and tell you were to be.Whether you can get the same instructor for an am and pm session i would have thought that possible.
When you thinking of going and which circuit?

Key things:

LISTEN to the briefing. They will probably cone the circuit. Know what the cones mean.

See if you can blag a ride with someone who has done the circuit before right away. You can learn the lefts/rights by simply sitting in the car with them.

Then go out and DON'T TRY TOO HARD. Learn the braking points, lefts and rights.

NOW spend time with an instructor who can now concentrate on helping you improve rather than simply teaching you which way the circuit goes.

And ENJOY! You will, I'm sure.

Hi Matt,

If you are looking at this Saturday, the 23rd,I will be there instructing on the day. With regard to when your session is, will depend upon whether you have pre-booked instruction, or if you are looking to book it on the day! I know that a large number of sessions of instruction have already been sold, and there are at least four of us working on the day, nevertheless, I would try and book now, if you haven't already done so! Those that pre-book are allocated slots throughout the day, where those that book on the day are given what's left, if any!!

Hope this helps.

definately get a few laps in at the start of the day on your own. Just to learn the corners a bit. Then go around with the instructor. It's the best £50 I spent at Bedford. It ment I could catch my mates 350z because I'd picked up much better lines and braking points.

Just enjoy the day, build up slowly, don't let yourself be put under pressure by other cars/drivers. Oulton Park is almost 2.7 miles long, numerous elevation changes, blind turns, off camber sections, and as a consequence, is a very technical circuit!! The weather forcast suggested that it may be damp, and if so, be very very careful, it is a very slippery surface in places ( Druids, Lodge Corner, the chicanes ) with less grip than you have on a normal road!

You say you are nervous, ..... when you are on track, try and relax, don't grip the steering wheel for grim death, ..... the more tense you are, the less flowing your driving will be.

Look forward to seeing you on the day. Howard
