Hi all,

I was looking at moving my peddles at the weekend. The accelerator is about 1/2 to 1" lower than the brake and clutch. While rooting around in the footwell I noticed that I could pull the accelerator peddle up into line with the other peddles. After consulting the bible I guesses that the cable was a little slack. Under the bonnet I found the accelerator housing and the cable tension adjuster, as described in the good book. However, I can't reach the adjuster to take up the slack as the mesh under the wiper arms is in the way of the nut.

How can I get to the adjuster to take up the slack? There is quite a lot of slack as well, possible over an inch. I could simply move the accelerator peddle up an inch to compensate but I'd prefer to get the slack out of the system if I can.

Ideas much appreciated.

I have just fitted the extension peddals, so I have been playing a bit recently.

There are two adjustment poins, one on the peddal box itself, two nuts on the inside of the box above the throttle pedal loosening an adjuster plate, which you can set the peddal height with, and the other as you have found in the engine bay. I found it was easier to take the whole cradle off to adjust the cable because I could not get under the mesh. There are four bolts holding this cradle, a bit of a fiddle, but it is OK

Hope this is some help

Ahaa.. well this all depends on if you have the earlier or later pedal box.. See a thread of mine here:

Cradle? What cradle? In the footwell or at the throttle body thing?

Under the bonnet, up the top where the end of the cable is.. basically you can remove the whole mechanism, adjust and refit I believe

Cheers,
Matt.

Ahhhh. That's what I thought you meant (honest ). Is the cradle easy to get off?

Now I've got some choices for this evening.

1) Try to adjust accelerator cable again.

2) Sod that and drive down to Dunton Green for the SEL/NWK meet

3) Give in to the GF and paint the spare room.

Hmmm. I can do 2 out of the 3. What do you think it might be?
