Very boring question, but does anyone know what sort of mpg a BMW GS will do? I'm looking at moving out of london and will get an 1150 or 1200 to commute on.

Without me looking on google, does anyone know the tank size, and a likely range if riden sensibly?

Thought you didn't do road bikes Fergus, what changed your mind?
Moving on, I dunno about GS mpg, but for reference my Falco does ~33mpg, the SV does 45mpg, commuting through SW London, which is about 10 mins A road riding and the rest 30 limits. I'd suggest 30s to 40s for you depending on route.

Steve.

Don't normally do road bikes. Haven't ridden on the road for about 6 years now. Possible change in circumstances though....

I'd get a GS rather than a sportsbike as I don't want to end up in prison/hospital! I'm also 6'5" and 18.5 stone, so a GS may be more comfortable for a daily commute!!! hehe

I suppose not that relavent but my 1200 RT normally runs at anywhere between 50-55 MPG on the commute (180 miles a day prodominently motorway). I would have thought the GS would be somewhere there or there abouts!

i did 160 a day for the last week, 120 of dual carriageway & the rest on london. its do-able but dull. would be longer if it wasnt for the worthless agency tossers.

My 1150gs will do 50+ on a run at motorway speeds. If you're getting back into road riding though you'll find the gs is an absolute hoot on twisty stuff. Get one with panniers and you'll be able to carry everything you need to take into work.

You'll need a 1200 ya big monkey wink seriously though it is an excellent choice of bike and one you know I have been considering for some time or a K1200R Sport, just remember to get heated grips, an absolute essential especially on days like we've been having just recently.

Yep, Reading to Barking and a bit during the day... Not every day but at least 3 times a week. Actually I don't mind it, find the run quite relaxing and the bike is awesome; does everything I could ever ask of the bike-huge tank, heated grips, heated seat, plenty of luggage anf quick if need be.

Contract is well worth the trip... wink
