A post on this - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... - thread got me thinking.
While riding your bike have you ever followed a car and been sprayed by the windscreen washers sending water up and over the back of the car whilst in motion ?
It has happened to me a few times including dry sunny days when theres hardly ever a need for car drivers to use their windscreen washers and i have had a funny feeling it was done deliberatley by the car driver.

I've had it quite a few times when filtering. It is better than them turning in on as you go past though wink

I'ver very anal when it comes to clean windscreens. any time of the year. so will use them to clean the windscreen BUT always check to see who or what is close by. as I have been washed in the kit car and bike in the past

Probably cleaning flies off the screen. I'd never thought about bikers when using washers, maybe I will now!

Once got a big lump of phlegm right in the middle of the visor when white van man hawked one up just as I filtered past! vomit

Don't think it was deliberate, but thank God I had the visor down!!!

You mean dry sunny days when bug splat and dust gets on the screen? If you had washers on your visor would you be checking the mirrors every time you needed to use them?

yes tbh it was half fend off the car & half boot it. if my foot had stayed on the peg i suspect id have cliped the front wing. quick shove with the foot to push me offline as it were (maybe harder than needed in the heat of the moment).

Not sure what point youre trying to make, but when driving a car i certainly wouldnt deliberatley use my washers to try to soak a biker who was behind me,unlike some clowns who do this for a joke.
Iam talking about the same sort of mentality as drivers who deliberatley drive through a puddle to drench pedesrtrians.

My point is that most car drivers, safe in their little cocoon, don't even give it a seconds thought as to what is behind them. I don't think they actually do it just to wet you. Some may do, but I'd guess they are in a tiny minority. The risk of a bikers boot up the side of their shiny Sierra wouldn't be worth the hassle.

But if you see them looking at you in their rear view mirror while they're doing it, then you know what's going on.

I was on the receiving end of a still lit cigarette butt whilst overtaking last summer. Small hole in my textiles not too far from my knackers and more than a little loss of concentration while trying to get rid! yikes

The thought of it being deliberate didn't really cross my mind until a little later...

On that note does anyone lash out when out on the bike?

Picture it if you will? Warm day enjoy many views, many speeds and many car drivers who insist on being complete c*cktards by blocking, spraying jets, slowing down and my ALL time favourite so far indicating right as you overtake them.

I do try not to think like this and thankfully I have only had a couple of instances where anything like the above has happened to me and more to the point it just spoils your day out on the crotch rocket.

AND AND before any drivers get on their high horse MOST OF US DRIVE CARS TOO.

The window washing thing is just as annoying if you're in a car, as it often means you have to wash your window as well. Whether it's deliberate for passing bikers or not I dunno - I guess there are some odd people around.

If someone gobbed at me whilst filtering I think I'd be inclined to stop and have a little word...that's just disgusting.

I've driven nothing but a car for the last five years, and pretty much nothing but a bike for the 30 years before that, so I have seen both sides of the coin. A biker makes a good car driver, but a biker ideally needs some in-car experience to see the other side of the coin. The roads look very different when you are stuck inside that tin box, your world closes in, you get remote, you forget what it is like out on the bikers road.

I did stop some dozy bint last summer whose kids were spraying traffic (incl me) with those big super soaker things from the back seat. Claimed she didn't know they were doing it but how you could not see your kids hanging out the side windows with luminous toy guns is beyond me. Should have just shopped her frankly, waste of breath and time.
