Trouble shooting advice for lights.required

I have problems with the lights on my S2 and would appreciate some advice please.
Here's the problem:
Both "side" lights work OK
Neither dip beam works
Neither full beam works when stalk is pushed forward ( i.e. "on" )
Both full beam works when "flashing"
Fuses are all ok ~ I haven't changed bulbs but am assuming that they are ok as it is unlikely that they have both gone together and also that I can still flash (Oo er!)
Where should I start looking and what should I test?
I have a multimeter.

I had these symptoms on my old S2 - it appeared to be a combination of dust and crap in the dip/main switch and poor connection in the multi-block that plugs into it.
I took the column switch off and gave it a good clean out then made sure the connector plug was seated securely in the connector.

rebuild going well - rear all reassembled - front end - got 1 of the guys picking up flexi brake hoses from John at HHC now - next day off is sat so another day in the garage should see all front suspension and brakes complete. Back on the road 'cos I got a griff500 in the meantime, will have to decide soon which 1 to keep

no mail yet, and apologies if this sounds like a really stupid question but you do know that the light switch is a two position switch dont you ? with the first position doing exactly what you decribe but the second position giving you the dipped and main beams ... sorry I know you will have checked this but...

Thats good to hear mate... looking forward to seeing you out at the meet... in the "S" of course - sorry but I'm obviously biased... any pictures available of your work so far ?K
Another vote for the column stalk.
My S1 suffered similar symptoms and it was the "pins" in the column stalk connector that had sunk into the plastic (overheated) and so were no longer making contact when the stalk was moved. Sorry, you can probably guess I'm not the technically minded person on here!
Fitted a replacement stalk from a scrap yard and all ok again.

My S1 suffered similar symptoms and it was the "pins" in the column stalk connector that had sunk into the plastic (overheated) and so were no longer making contact when the stalk was moved. Sorry, you can probably guess I'm not the technically minded person on here!
