Hi

I know this has probably been done to death, but I can't seem to find anything using the search engine....

I'd be most grateful if someoine could recommend a suitable replacement for the factory fitted 16cm door speaker.

I'm not bothered about the sound but I've lost the grill off the original and the scrappers want £35 for a second hand single speaker so I may as well buy a new set.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Mark

What speakers do you have (model number) as I have 1 decent speaker and 2 good grills I could offer you. I could do the grill for just a few beer tokens if its the right one.

I have just replaced my speakers. I took the speakers out the back and put them in the front doors (because its all I could find that would fit) and then for the back I fitted some pioneer 17cm.

I did need spacers for the rear as the larger speakers I have fitted would have fouled the fuel tank. I got them from here as for the sake of a few quid, I couldn't be bothered making them:

Hope this helps.

I'm thinking of changing my original Pioneer ones for the Blaupunkt THX 652 or similar - would I really notice a difference? as the Pioneers are in good condition.

Recently been to see Carl Baker for a few bits and he had some good deals on speakers. He'll fit whatever combination you want i.e. just fronts, all four, with sub woofers....
One of the things I got from him was a new CD player - he didn't try to plam me off with new speakers just told me what he could do and said try the existing speakers for a while to see if I really wanted to change them.
Well pleased with what he did and will go back if I decide to change the speakers.
His number is 0772 092 3407

I only had one speaker grille, too and learning that a 'new' one from Pioneer would be in excess of £20 for a five year old (they weren't the originals anymore), £45 pair of speakers I decided to upgrade - £90 worth of Focal Acces (French for 'you've bought the bottom of the range' hehe) 165 mm coaxials. Contrary to most options today which are the wrong side of 17 cm, the outside diameter of the grilles is 165 mm - exactly the same as the speakers that they replace. They need 61 mm or so of clearance in the doors - should fit but I'll know for sure when the car's here again. rolleyes

Cheers - Email received. I'll have a look at the model number of the speakers I took out the front tomorrow and let you know.

I have replaced mine with Blaupunkt THX652's that fit very well and sound good too. I done a lot of research to find some that fitted as there are not a lot around where the grill will also fit.
See this thread - http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...
