Dont worry this is nothing to do with thin homosexuals!

Whilst being followed the other day my wife pointed out that the rear drivers side exhaust gave out a very slight bluey puff of smoke on hard acceleration. Obviously she wasnt quick enough to catch up to see if it continued.

Also notice that over the weekdend of GotG that after 350 miles of hard driving I needed about 1/2 litre of oil.

I know the oil thread has been done to death and know Cerbs burn a little and also have seen them throw a little blue/grey smoke when being booted,

Should I be concerned or not worry about it as it was only out of one pipe!

Since my Service in January my 4.5 has not lost any appreciable oil at all. Carefully checked on dipstix (due to known unreliability of said). And its an everyday runner approx 3K in that time.

Doesn't sound good to me.

Mine has not lost enough to warrant a top up in the last 1500 miles.

When's the next service due?
If it's a while, I'd be thinking about and out of
service check over if it were mine.

Go create some weather...

strange one that .. the cerbie usually puffs out some black sooty carbon on acceleration from the accel enrichment, but blue smoke is oil. incidently synthetic oils don't burn with blue smoke so what your wife is seeing i have no idea (they usually don't burn at all but leave a slight oily coating all over the back of the car). It's also perfectly reasonable for a cerbie to use a litre every 1k miles just like all big engined TVRs so I wouldn't be too bothered if i were you. however if it blows up in the next couple of weeks ...!!

Mine uses a fair bit of oil, not sure exactly how much but not enough to be worried about, maybe 1/2 litre every 750 miles. I also have a breather pipe disconnected at the mo so I suspect I'm using a little more than I should.

Thanks guys!

I had another look last night and its not used any oil in the past 150 miles. There is a very (alomst invisible)) puff on tickover but definately not blue as first thought.

Joospeed you advice is spot on normally. Im currently running Mobil 1 0/40 do you suggest I switch to something like 15/50 and what are the benefits of this
