Car won't start

Big day today, I was off to get my new wheels fitted when I turned the car over and she won't fire up, first thought was that I flooded her but I've left it for a while and nothing again, its as if she is just about to fire up but doesn't. She hasn't been on a run for a few days and I've started her to move her in and out of the garage so she was running a bit rough when she fired up last night? Also, the last time I tried I kept the key turned and the car turning over and after a while the car beeped at me, never had this before is it trying to tell me something?

Anyone any ideas please?

Can you hear the pump with ignition on before starting?

If not

Fuel pump relay? (Brown one R53)

Thanks for that Graham, when I turn the ignition on the start up sequence begins, I press the key and I can hear (what I assume is the pump) make a long noise and then stop, I turn the key and she won't fire up. I was trying to remember if the noise stops or keeps going but I couldn't remember?

You could try disconnecting all the spark plug leads, turning it over, then re-connecing them. Happend to me a few times and that did the trick.

It could be the power steer pump you can hear(fuse no.36?)

I took the fuel pump relay out and turned the ignition on and didn't get the noise so I'm presuming that its working ok?

Do you think I may have just flooded it and then kept flooding by not leaving it long enough?

May be worth disconnecting the battery or unplugging the ecu in case it is confused, and then reconnecting.

Take the fuel pump relay out.

Turn over the engine for 2 minutes (assuming your battery is fully charged).

Replace relay.

Turn over engine without touching the accelerator and don't stop.

If you hear the engine catching as if it's trying to start then gently press the accelerator.

If it hasn't started after around 2 minutes you're problem is something other than flooding.

Cheers guys, I've left the car for a couple of hours now, I'm not going to try it for another hour or so, the battery is definately not flat as I've had the anderson leads on it and linked up to another battery since it first didn't start. I'll see how I get on and if no joy I'll carry out the things above.

Very similar happened to me on 2 occasions.

The first time, I called out the TVR recovery (RAC), as I thought something was goosed - couldn't believe how fast the engine turns over when not firing. By the time the RAC chap arrived the car started first time...

2nd time, I checked with Racing Green for the procedure to start from flooded and Martin's recomendation was to press the throttle about half way open and then crank the engine over. Just be ready to lift off the throttle as it starts to fire up. The revs won't rise as fast as they normally would as not all cylinders will fire up together. That method fired it up straight away!

Had something similar with my Tamora. It kept firing but wouldn't run - almost like the symptoms of being flooded. Lengthy investigation revealed the fuel pickup pipe had simply dropped off inside the tank. Popped it back on, clipped it into place and it's been fine ever since.

Dont know if you have the same problem?But you have the same symptoms,which were fixed by disconnecting the battery,it reset the immobiliser.simon.
