Hi all! I've just joined and have a question about engine oil.I am the proud owner of an 1986 M635 CSI and would appreciate any suggestions on synthetic v mineral considering age of car,Mobil v Castrol etc.Cheers.

Castrol Magnatec or synthetics no thinner than 10/40.

Here is a link to Opie Oils and this will explain pretty well everything you could ever wish to know about oils.

Thanks for the info and also the welcome.I will after looking at the opie oils website plump for castrol oil but can't decide between the-
Edge Sport 10w-60 or Magnatec 10w-40.Will the extra outlay for the Edge 10w-60 be worth it long term ? Thanks.

I would stick to the 10w 40. Better lubrication from cold and less chance of burn off IMHO. Drain and flush the system first if you are not sure what oil is currently cooling and lubricating your engine.

Thanks again for the info.I noticed Amsoil provide fully synthetic at 10w-40 so i might go for this over the magnatec.
