I've got to be honest, I'm not a badge snob, but when I got my ro, I was offended by the Vauxhall badges hurl , so I embarked upon replacing them. My theory was that if I were to buy a porsche from a ford dealer, and he sticks ford badges on it, is it still a Porsche, or is it a Ford? Obviosuly it's a Porsche, and always will be.....so what I've got is a Holden, with the wrong badges on it..

Anyway, I've changed over the front and rear badge to Holden, but the wheel centres are stupid money for what they are..(£100), I took the Vauxhall badge off the steering wheel, and replaced it with a neatly fitting silver St Christopher, as I couldn't find the Holden equivelent anywhere. Now I'm at the point where if I see it through, I have to get the wheel centres, an engine cover, and change the computer so that when I start the car it says Holden, not Vauxhall. To be honest, I'm wondering if I can be arsed? I love the car no matter what badge it sports, but at the moment it's half and half, which I think is a bit daft......

Anyway, sorry to have bored you with this trivia, but what do you r'ro drivers think....

Mine's a Holden. Only got two Vauxhall badges left (scuff plates) and the 'Vauxhall' on the screen at start up.

Didn't do it through badge snobbery at all. I have two other cars that are Vauxhall. Just wanted something that little bit different and original and it's a great talking point with folk when you're filling up with petrol etc.

Plus I like the "WTF is that?" (good at lip reading) factor and when they see the Lion and CV8 badge - just gets them even more fascinated.

Even the bodyshop I use prefer to refer to it as the 'Holden' when they're discussing work with me.

At the end of the day it's a GM product no matter what badge it wears.

wonder if an anal insurance assesor could say you have altered the cars identity. If you are going to do it you have to do the full job or not at all, otherwse you have a 316i M3.

Roastbeef - you need one of two things...1) a friendly Oz chap to send you a set of wheel centres, like Geoff at JHP.com.au, or...2)contact LSV cos they do a 'pack' of badges for a very resonable price, incl the steering wheel centre (which is like a soft, gel, sticky badge you just stick over the top of the Vauxhall griffin. I've doen all mine but, as devilyellow points out, it's a GM whatever it wears!

It also depends if you have a CV8 or VXR, the VXR is sold here as an HSV, I don't think it has any Holden badges.
Same with the VXR8, only HSV badges on it.

Looks like you have the answer for the airbag badge in another post, as normally that involves a whole replacement airbag cover. The wheel caps are expensive out here too, althoguh I do remember somebody posting an alternative part number that was a lot cheaper. The ones I have seen are about AUD$130 for 4. Ironically the HSV centres I have seen are cheaper!

Someone has also mentioned the sill plate badges. I do not know the part number for the little badges but the actual whole plates with holden badges are not over $150 a pair from memory.
The back and front badges are all not too bad for price. The ones on the sides are different from early models to the later ones. The 2002-2003 versions had a shiny chrome Monaro badge on the side of the car. The newer model had badges the same colour as the steering wheel grey spoke inserts.
One of the rare cars down here was the CV8-R. There were 2 versions...one has black chrome badges on it which would look different again.

If you're not a badge snob, why change the badges? I work at Luton airport so I drive down Vauxhall way, past all the old Vauxhall factories, empty car parks once filled with everything from Victors, Vivas, Cavaliers, Astras etc and past Motorbodies. It's been part of our/GM's motoring heritage since 1905 and I'm proud to drive one.

Don't be a ponce.

Exactly, 99% of UK folk haven't heard of Holden. Don't even ask how I know it's 99%

All good comments in aiding with my identity crisis....

I've owned many cars over the years, some of the best have been Vauxhall's, one was a Calibra in '97, which I loved to bits (until it fell to bits!), the other, and my favourite car to date (aside from the 'ro) was a 2.5L V6 Omega Elite. Although I may be a ponce, I have nothing against Vauxhall's, and I am not a badge snob. If I were, I wouldn't even consider driving a Vauxhall, but my point is that the ro is built by Holden in Australia, not Vauxhall in the UK.

Last week I was parked up in town, and a few people walked past the car, I heard one say "What's that?", another bloke said "It's a Holden, It's a Holden..." almost as if he were excited about seeing one. If it had the Vauxhall badges on, they wouldn't have been so enthused....The Holden brand creates an air of mystery and interest because it's not known in the UK so well (exactly 99% of the UK haven't heard of it (figures courtesy of V2RAC). FWIW, I think GM should have kept and sold the Holden brand through Vauxhall. In the states it's a Pontiac, a cool brand that is synonymous for muscle and speed, the same goes for Holden in Australia, in the UK, Vauxhall is known for providing cheap and badly made cars to the masses. Just my penny's worth..

I'm going to see my re-branding excercise through, because after saying all that, I can't back track and put the Vauxhall badges back on......maybe I am a badge snob!! smile

I find most people are interested in the car because it's interesting. The fact it says Vauxhall on the back makes it even more so.

I wonder why Vauxhall appears to be widely perceived as a crap brand. I have had stirling service from a slection of VX vehicles over the years including Cav.sri's, GSI,Vectras and Omega. All of which performed faultlessly for many miles. However the same cannot be said for the dreadful F**d Mondeo 24v Ghia, and closely followed by the nearly as bad ST200. the latter brand never seems to suffer the same stigma as VX and IMHO they are not superior in any way. All the drivers of that myriad of Vauxhalls we all see on our roads cannot all be wrong.
Just my thoughts though.

badge snobbery pure and simple

why is Honda seen as the ultimate manufacturer for bikes? 20 years ago their reputation was shot due to the 750 so they, for a very short time, insured their bikes were the best engineerd. Today their inferior bikes are still classed as the ultimate (despite being plauged with relability issues still they cannot get rectifiers to work more than a week) whilst people like Kwak are slated for piss poor build yet their bikes are much more reliable.

Why do you never hear of many issues with BMW despite them having a lot of problems like any other manufacturer?

I have to chuckle every time I see one of these badge-swapping threads. Do people not realise that Holden is the exact equivalent of Vauxhall down under - ie. they sell corsas, astras, vectras etc with Holden badges on. It is not a Premium brand at all. The argument that they're built in Australia is worthy of the badge swap is also nonsense to me - like has been said it is just a GM product. Why don't people swap their Vauxhall badges for Opel badges for the cars built in Europe?
Now with HSV I can almost see justification as they are a 'performance brand', but you could argue that's what VXR is supposed to be over here. I quite enjoy the fact my 'HSV' is badged as a Vauxhall, it adds comedy value when people can't figure out what on earth the car is.

OK, I admit defeat.....So now I drive a Vauxhall with the wrong badges on it..... confused

I'll let my fellow ro drivers decide...

Should I put the VX badges back on, or go the whole hog with the Holden badges....
