Hi

I thought I read somewhere that scamera vans were not allowed to catch speeding motorist within a certain distance where the speed limit changes from one speed to another.

Did I dream this or is there some truth in it.

Thanks in advance

Think that was a good dream Justin.
They can, as the speed limit changes on that actual spot. ie....keep to 30, and when into the 40 then accelerate. Not, like everyone, me included does, gradually accelerate to 40 as you get to the sign.
Sorry for bad news.
Mike.

Mike - what if 2 yards from the post, you floored it, and having a powerful vehicle, got to 10%+2 over the limit..... would you get prosecuted for 2 yards?

Is the line, literally the "line" ? surely this is where a human being would forgive, but a machine would not?

The guidlines say not within 50m of a limit change. But like all the other guidelines, like being yellow and visible etc, they are not a defence in the eye's of the law..

Certainly for effort put in!

Saying that, it is a non discretionary machine.
Give it a go, and let us know!!!

Are these guidlines available to the public, My photo shows the back of my car approx 10m from the 40 limit. 69.4M away from the mobile scamera van.

Cheers

Justin

I was under the impression only cameras which go to fund police have to be yellow. The council run ones were left grey...?

or am i mistaken?

If you're in the 30 I'm afraid IMHO you don't have a chance, as the camera won't record the fact you were accellerating; for all the knows you were slowing as you saw the van; sorry it's not good news...

I got this from some DOT blurb, I will see if I can dig it up again. Unfortunately I don't think it will be much help as it seems the guidlines are just that, and can be ignored. The only retribution you might get is that I think those forces who have signed up to the "Safety Camera Partnership" ,have to abide by the guidelines to keep the revenue. Not sure how you go about complaining about that though. I am sure someone on here will have an idea

Yep

South Wales scameras do this all the time - on the Rally GB they caught loads by parking up in a village up a side street and catching 300m away people from behind a few meters from the NSL exit signs in open country

Scum Eh ?
