I went to have a look at a 355 today. It was only £35k so I was not expecting perfection but I was a bit shocked at quite how poor it looked. Quite a bit of rust around all of the wheel arches and lots of bubbling at the bottoms of buttress/tops of rear wings. Also the leather on the drivers seat bolster and the handbrake gaitor was heavily worn. It only had 20k miles and was a '97 model. Is that sort of wear typical or was this just a bad example?

It can happen if the car's not been looked after.

You have to keep on top of cosmetic items on these as much (probably more than) mechanical or they get out of hand quickly.

Might not cost that much to put right (grand or two maybe) but you have to ask if these bits haven't been looked after, what else hasn't?

Good cars will typically be more than 35k IMO. Might only be a few k in it, but as with most motors it's false economy buying a poor one expecting to put it right for less than a good one would have cost in the first place.

Keep looking. They're worth it.

I just sold a 37k mile 355 and the leather had virtually no wear. I have seen "alleged" low mileage cars whch are very badly worn.

I recently saw a 15k mile 360; interior looked like it had been through 12 rounds with mike tyson! You just have to keep looking - unfortunately some people just dont look after them!

Like anything there are good and bad (but quite a lot of bad ones) - took me a long time to find mine. Keeping looking as a good condition one is a fantastic car.

Was this the one at Anniesland Trade Centre in Glasgow? That car actually has 40k on it but the speedo is showing 20k. The salesmen told me that it was costing them £45k...rolleyes

Mines a '96 Spider with just over 30k. Little bit of wear shows on the black leather, and the typical rubberised plastic interior parts have worn, but everything else seems spot on.

Yeah, it was the same one. I was really surprised at quite how rusty it was and the state of the interior. The guy told me he was originally selling it for £42k but had reduced it because of the time of year. He would not be willing to move on the price and it would not come with any warranty yikes

If he's not careful he won't have much choice.

And if he's a dealer, there has to be a warranty (even if only 3mths).
