World Press Photo Awards 2007

The World Press Photo Awards for 2007 were recently announced. The standard of photography is breathtaking as is the courage shown by many photographers in capturing events from around the World.

Some staggering photos in there, which make you wonder how they were possibly taken.

If a man is prepared to beat women with sticks in the street - why would he ignore the chap taking photos of him doing it, with a fantastically expensive camera?

Why would Congolese militia pose for photos? Bravado?

Suck bizarre morals/ethics/reasoning - or lack of.

Superb photos though. Can't embed them here but my favourite is the mono one of the Congolese chap with the cowboy hat on in the section "General News: 3rd prize stories"

The raining sports ones though, they have been edited haven't they? Can you get that effect straight off the camera?
