Short of having a plug made up to the right thread (not measured it yet), anyone got any tried and tested methods to blank off the port in the plenum when the stepper is done away with? Not so keen on the epanding flexi-expandabung idea as it will prolly perish with fuel fume exposure. Don't really want to weld it up either.

Don't know why you want to do it but can't you just pull out the internal spindle and disconnect the wiring, effectively making it redundant but using the stepper body to block the hole?

Why would you want to do this?

I suppose I could but would prefer to keep the original stepper functional as it's in good order... It's redundant as I'm moving to an Emerald ECU which it is not compatible with

If you just disconnected it but pushed the threaded spindle back as far as it goes, wouldn't that do what you want then? Or are you hoping to flog it on ebay?biglaugh

That's an option too, but I don't want to lug redundant clutter around (that's an extra pie I can enjoy wink and, yep, the Ebay sale will fund it)

This is a stainless one that fits. I have it on mine.

If you neeed to pllug the lambda sensors it is these.

Hope this helps . . .

I just blanked mine off using some thick gasket card between the housing and the planum itself.I left a hole for the vacuum pipe for my fuel regulator and that was it-cheap and easy smile

With an Emerald set up, the new ECU will not run the existing stepper motor. You can add in another stepper of a variety which will work and plumb it in to the existing bypass pipe. Then using using the existing stepper motor housing you can keep the pipe for the regulator and the bypass.

You can also run without a stepper, and bung the stepper hole and the bypass pipe.

I chose to use the stainless pipe bung as I wanted to use the pipework. This allows the housing to remain free of ubstruvtion to enable a new stepper to be wired in to the bypass pipe.

It also means i retain the vacuum pipe for the regulator. The stainless bung is by far the neatest and best looking solution, and with a little PTFE it is air tight.

I have in the shed a plenum on unknown vintage, that has a core plug type bung in place of the steppermotor mounting casting. You may want to take a look at that route.

Hi Gary, go down your local motor factors and get yourself a sensor bung. I took my whole plenum down while it was off and the guy just tried a few bungs until he found one of the right size. It's brass and sits flush to the plenum with a hex fitment on the top and looks very neat and tidy. It was around 20mm diameter IIRC and cost about £1, I plumbed the new stepper so it sits behind the plenum and taps into a new throttle bypass pipe thumbup

It means the stepper does nothing,as you effectively block it off.Although the Omex ecu i had could use the stepper i much preferred it without.I still left it unplugged as well though!

I just blanked mine off at the weekend.

The pipe size is 16mm - I used a plastic bung off a central heating system.. then I disconnected the stepper motor plug.

The car still ticks over fine when it's warm.

Yeah it should tick over fine when warm as the ECU uses idle ignition control almost exclusively. The stepper is only really used for cold start - It uses stepper to start up, then gradually shifts to idle ign control as it warms up.

Er, don't think this is quite right as the stock ECU doesn't map ign at all. The stepper certainly does also operate when up to temp as anyone who has been smitten with a random 2.5k idle at junctions will know. I'm not gonna Ebay mine, I'm throwing it in the field over the road and will live with the muscle strain from trying extra hard smile

You're talking about the 14CUX, but I don't think thenick was.
