Hi All,

Got a "small" nail slightly off centre of the raised section of the tyre tread. Plenty of tread on the tyre so I don't want to buy a new one if I can help it. Anyone any experience of gettting small repairs done - if so where ? Realise that without seeing it it's difficult to judge but would be interested if anyone has similar situation.

National Tyres repaired mine in June. Similar thing to yours. We've got various tradesmen using the trade counter at work, and they're for ever dropping screws/nails etc out of their vans., for me to pick up on my tyres smile

The general consensus on here is to normally replace them, high speed tyre etc.

I've been over 145 since, and I'm still here to tell the tale wavey

All depends where the nail is, if it's in a fairly central position in the tyre contact patch - then you should have no problems repairing it. If it's getting close to the sidewall (I usually start getting concerned when it's say within an inch of the sidewall) your best bet is to replace.

I've run on repaired Eagle F1's on a few cars, again - all central nails, and they've been absolutely fine.

Cheers folks. That's been very helpful indeed and yes it is on the central contact area - so that's encouraging. thumbup

Be careful - I went to get my tyre repaired with a similar problem but once the tyre was off it was clear it needed replacement due to running on low pressure.

For £160ish it is worth the peace of mind.

Thanks Tim. Noted. I think God created a rule for us, where by as soon a man (or woman!) gets some money in their pocket, something expensive goes wrong with their mode of transport. Happens every time. rolleyes

We had a rear repaired a while back on the Cerb (large nail right through the middle), and survived fighting torque (with a genuine 150mph on the runway) thumbup

I'll skimp on lots of things in life, but I'll never have a tyre repaired.

Did it once on a Citroen Xsara (using a reputable dealer) and the repair failed later the same day. When back to moan and they repaired it again - and it seemed to work this time. Less than a week later it blew out at 90+ in the fast lane of a busy motorway. Luckily hung onto the initial "jump" and managed to get it through the traffic to the hard shoulder, slewing all over the place. Completely mullered the alloy, and took a couple of chunks out of the plastic arch into the bargain.
Naturally, the dealer denied all knowledge, and suggested that I go back and find all the little bits of tyre if I wanted to take the matter further.furious

Seriously, its not worth it.

If you drive one of the fastest cars in the world - the last thing you skimp on is tyres, brakes and suspension.

Thanks for your replies and help all. Interesting to get all peoples thoughts. Got it done and it is done to BS by the company that owns my local TIV dealership so happy with that ..under £12.00 too. It should be fine until it comes to change both tyres together.
