I know this topic has been covered on may occasions but was considering having my Cerb de-catted and was wondering;

* Will my dealer want to do this for me or do they get funny with things like this being done?
* Will it invalidate my warranty?
* Will it improve anything like performance or ride quality?
* Is it a lengthy job to have done?
* And lastly, will I need ear plugs??!!! Got SP Pipes fitted.

Grateful for any comments peeps.

It depends who your dealer is.
Not sure, I suspect it might, ask the dealer.
No and err are you kidding, how on earth can changing the cats affect the ride? Are you a troll?

I thought it may make it run a bit smoother or feel different in any way, that's all.

I think I understand what you mean by ride quality, you meant if it pops & bangs more will you be able to hear anything after a half hour journey?

Er....No you'll be stone deaf

I'm deaf already from the sports pipes and if it pops and bangs more than it already does then I'll be getting arrested

BigT - I think decat and sports pipes will be over the top mate. My choice would be decat and standard pipes purely to avoid paying out hundreds for new cats when MOT time comes.

On another topic - are you not doing any track days now?

I wanted to book the GT circuit on 2nd August but realised it was my niece's first birthday party that day so can't do it. I think the next one isn't until November though. I'll try somewhere else before that and book the November date as soon as it's available. Tyres are probably in ideal condition right now then ready to buy new ones after the trackday. Do you know where you get those Mufflers from??

Shame about the 2nd, would of loved to have gone, especially to see what your RR with the CRG is like, that's my next purchase very soon.

Took mine to a TVR service centre "somewhere" in mainland Europe for a clutch master cylinder replacement and they noticed the cats were rattling - so they took the material out of the existing ones and put 'em back on (with the sports pipes) Loud? and the original cat chambers turn "pops and bangs" into "shock and awe" sound effects.....
Ride quality? Felt like I was driving over a field of land mines...

Here you go:

Mine has Sports and is decatted and yes, it is loud.

Go create some weather...

I have noticed mine is accelerating much smoother since removing the cats.

A word of caution - may not be related but if not it was a weird coincidence - after running decatted for a couple of months both lambda sensors had to be replaced (burnt out according to those helpful chappies at Team)

Big T, re your second question

TVR service bulletin 99 - 27-5-98 - to all dealers said:
It has come to our attention that dealers are carrying out modifications to TVR models that may affect noise & emission controls........Any modification to engine, ECU, exhaust manifolds, exhaust systems or inlet systems may exclude future warranty claims

Make of that what you will? Theoretically this could mean that either they cannot carry out certain modifications, or if they do and do not inform you of this statement they could potentially be liable at a later date should a warranty claim be refused? I could see that turning into an entertaining conversation. Personally, being out of any warranty period 'I pays my money and makes my own choice' after all a quiet TVR is like Vinny Jones in pink bedroom slippers
