A friend of mine has a load of DVDs that they want to compress and store on a hard drive. Can any one recommend a reasonably effective way of doing this so that the final compressed file is around 1GB. They have Premiere but it will take an age for them to do so using that software.

I use DVDShrink. You can also remove things you don't want like other language tracks and extras to save even more space

Does it get round copy protection?

Yes, mostly. I've had a couple of Region 1 DVD's that I've had to use DVDDefender on though

Thanks! They did mention Shrink actually but wondered if there was other software available.

There probably is plenty of other software out there but DVDShrink just works and is quick and easy to use. And free!

Speed was what they were after. And the fact that it is free is a massive bonus.

I've had a play with this, pretty good for nowt!

On my laptop, I only have the option to change region codes 4 times. Anybody come across this before? (my previous laptop played all regions). Is this get roundable?

You may also need to install new firmware on the drive. Do a search for the drive name and "region free". Or read this guide:
