Have noticed a few VXRs on the trader lately that are advertised as 5.7 litres but in the small print says "this is a 6 litre not 5.7"... Anyone know the reason for this?

There's a gleaming black monaro on it at the minute and I get trouser-tent everytime I look at it... Should I, Shouldn't I...

Then you run out of money trying to fuel the thing and are forced to sell it, losing thousands on modifications added to an already fast-depreciating car, forced to drive some shit-box diesel cos it's all you can afford?

Hmm, why wasn't I informed of this before I bought my car biggrin

Luckily enough I am tight fisted by nature so have managed to keep hold of my money so far (.... apart from the exhaust but the old one had 3K miles under the belt so probably pretty worn out anyway wink )

To answer your questions Stu.
Some of the earlier VXR's that came in had the 5.7 litre engines, this is before they were fitted with the LS2 (6 Litre jobs).

VXR = HSV = better styling in my opionion, and in the later cars a 6L engine. but be careful, they have small boots, (not sure if there were any 6L that didn't). No doubt will be corrected.

CV8 = Holden = 5.7 Litre.

Haha, oh don't worry, i've already convinced myself that it won't be THAT expensive to run... ;-)

I live about 5 mins drive from work and don't really cover that many miles in general, so don't think fuel will be a big problem. Supposed to be starting a new job in a month or so so will see how that pans out before taking the next step.

I know the difference in the models, but what I mean is, I've seen quite a few that are definately LS2 engined VXRs but are advertised as 5.7L in the advertisement heading. I've seen this on a few occasions. Confused me at first because I thought maybe there were versions that looked exactly like the LS2 VXR, only had the LS1 engine. Anyway....

There's a black 2005 Monaro on the trader at the minute, 35k miles, 18750 quid. Sounds like a decent price to me. Looks stunning in black as well. Anyone know the car?

Hang on...

Just to make sure I'm not totally confused here.... Is it possible to buy a standard monaro, that looks exactly like the one below, with a 5.7L engine?

Hope the owner of the photo doesn't mind me using his pic as an example. Car looks lovely...

The earlier ones are similar - mine is a 5.7l LS1 VXR - it has no nostrils, a proper boot, and different wheels:

You're less likely to find one, as there are only 60 of them as opposed to 300+ 6.0 VXRs. All the Monaro VXRs with nostrils and a small boot have the 6.0l LS2 engine in them.

No problem, and thanks In response to one of your original questions, yes you should! Go and drive it, then just buy it - you won't regret it! I've had mine 6 months now and I still get a fuzzy warm feeling when I look at it. I use it pretty much daily, and even after the morning commute I get out with a grin on my face

Yeah, I think it's more a question of when. I live in N.Ireland so there aren't any for sale here, would require a trip to the mainland to get one. I have never seen a single Monaro in N.I. although I'm sure there are a few about.

Looking forward to my first drive of a Monaro, I drove Commodores and Statesmans when I lived in Oz but never got the chance to drive a Monaro. Swore I'd buy one when I came home though!

If this had been last year I could have obliged you in meeting up, but I'm long gone from there now...

Eakin Brothers in Derry were who looked after the car for me, it did take some chats with the regional manager for Scotland and NI to get them the ok to carry out the work and not affect the warranty etc - also a non-ro dealer can also have trouble sourcing the parts - so I ordered them myself and then dropped them off with the car wink

Also if you go for it and need a new screen, I had a lot of hassle trying to find a local company which could sort it out and finally Autoglass in the Bay Road Industrial up in Derry got one within 2 days too, so if you're based in the North West they already know of the cars thanks to my 9 months or so there with it before moving over here.
